[ubuntu] mount windows share: "Cannot allocate memory" - Ubuntu Forums
11 weeks ago by WIZARDISHUNGRY
The solution: right click the shared folder on Windows and open the Properties dialog. The two tabs of interest are Sharing and Security. I had to grant the local user access on BOTH tabs. Initially, I had only done this on the Sharing tab. It's unfortunate the error message - "cannot allocate memory" - was not more helpful.

SSH Can Do That? Productivity Tips for Working with Remote Servers | Smylers [blogs.perl.org]

ControlPersist 4h
That will cause connections to hang around for 4 hours (or whatever time you specify) after you log out, ready to spring back into life if you request another connection to the same server during that time. Again, it really speeds up copying multiple files; a series of scp commands doesn’t require authenticating with the server each time.

google-authenticator - Two-step verification - Google Project Hosting
june 2011 by WIZARDISHUNGRY
The Google Authenticator project includes implementations of one-time passcode generators for several mobile platforms, as well as a pluggable authentication module (PAM). One-time passcodes are generated using open standards developed by the Initiative for Open Authentication (OATH) (which is unrelated to OAuth).

I have far more faith in xargs than I do in Hadoop. Hell, I trust xargs more than I trust myself to write a simple multithreaded processor. I trust syslog to handle asynchronous message recording far more than I trust a message queue service.

etckeeper
december 2010 by WIZARDISHUNGRY
etckeeper is a collection of tools to let /etc be stored in a git, mercurial, darcs, or bzr repository. It hooks into apt (and other package managers including yum and pacman-g2) to automatically commit changes made to /etc during package upgrades. It tracks file metadata that revison control systems do not normally support, but that is important for /etc, such as the permissions of /etc/shadow. It's quite modular and configurable, while also being simple to use if you understand the basics of working with revision control.

july 2009 by WIZARDISHUNGRY
JDownloader is open source, platform independent and written completely in Java. It simplifies downloading files from One-Click-Hosters like Rapidshare.com or Megaupload.com - not only for users with a premium account but also for users who don't pay. It offers downloading in multiple paralell streams, captcha recognition, automatical file extraction and much more. Additionally, many "link encryption" sites are supported - so you just paste the "encrypted" links and JD does the rest.

hello - GNU Project - Free Software Foundation
may 2009 by WIZARDISHUNGRY
Unlike the minimal version often seen, GNU Hello processes its argument list to modify its behavior, supports greetings in many languages, and so on. The primary purpose of GNU Hello is to demonstrate how to write other programs that do these things; it serves as a model for GNU coding standards and GNU maintainer practices.
