Line56.com: Web 2.0: Ready to Go
Imagine if there had been a wiki at this organization. The reps could have fed tidbits of this kind into the system and other reps could have consulted it. And there's no end of tidbits. Sure, a wiki isn't a system of record; it isn't a backbone; but it is a huge and open notepad, regulated by the common sense and intelligence of hundreds of employees, that lets you create, edit, and access information almost instantaneously.

Wiki Papers: Divide and Conquer
Wiki communities grow around a particular subject. As the online community grows, reduced peer review and a decline in civility can rupture the community. We describe alternatives to tighter control mechanisms: Approaches to allow peer review to scale in existing communities, and to facilitate the forking of online communities. The key idea is that we recognize how the set of local pages forms a Link Language for the community. To facilitate forking, we make linking and searching of remote pages as easy as linking and searching local pages via Near Linking and Near Searching. This allows us the reuse of pages on remotes sites for our own Link Language.

findingparts:sampling [AdaWiki]
It's hard to go wrong with free. Parts manufacturers are often more than happy to ship you, for no cost, a few samples of their merchandise. They often ship within the week, sometimes the next day, and with free 2-3day FedEx/UPS.

These are only the dozen companies I've actually ordered from, if you know others, feel free to edit the wiki page with this content, (or email me)!

Steven's Egg Record 2008 - AboutUs Wiki Page
This is the record of how many eggs my trio of backyard hens has produced since I acquired them in May 2008. As a rule, three hens should lay two eggs every day on average. In reality, this will vary according to how many hours of daylight there are, with less in winter and more in summer.

Statement Of Fork
As of October 27th 2008, 'TWiki' is no longer the same, its now Commercial open source. The people that have driven TWiki development for the past decade feel the time has come to do so under a different name.

The new project (the name is as of yet undecided, nextwiki, twikifork and notwiki are just placeholders), promises new features that have been long-awaited while maintaining a clear upgrade path for existing installations.

-=SUbWAY=- » Blog Archive » TWiki is dead, long live TWiki!
Hey, you had to fork! You had no other choice. I think the best way to strike back is to keep the the open source “NextWiki”ahead of the commercialized twiki. Keep up the great forums for open source support of nextWiki, this will minimize the need for a commercial twiki and the venture capitalists won’t fund the Twiki.net’s next round. If the VCs are not going to see a profit they will get out quick. What you guys have done is help build a very modular wiki. I use it here at DAFCA with the latex module. You’ve got the GPL on your side. Keep up the fight! Twiki has evolved due to the contributors code while Theony had plans on cashing in on all the hard work that the contributors made.

Hostile takeover of Open Source Project TWiki
@linkorama says " just a minute before the regular TWiki release meeting, the company TWIKI.NET announced unilaterally that the best for the TWiki.org project would be for them to take over governance. With it comes a complete lock down of the community site. From that minute on, all long-time contributors have lost access to their code. Counter-reaction: the community has left the building, leaving TWIKI.NET without a contributing community. "

Jon Udell: Wikipedia and the social construction of knowledge
Some knowledge is purely factual, but much is socially constructed and therefore inevitably prone to bias and dispute. Wikipedia's greatest innovation is arguably the framework it provides to mediate the social construction of knowledge, advocate for neutrality, accommodate dispute, and offer a path to its negotiated resolution. For this Jimbo Wales deserves -- and I hope will one day receive -- a Nobel Prize.

Streisand effect - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Streisand effect is a phenomenon on the Internet where an attempt to censor or remove a piece of information backfires, causing the information to be widely publicized. Examples are attempts to censor a photograph, a file, or even a whole website, especially by means of cease-and-desist letters. Instead of being suppressed, the information sometimes quickly receives extensive publicity, often being widely mirrored across the Internet, or distributed on file-sharing networks.[1][2] Mike Masnick said he jokingly coined the term in January 2005, “to describe [this] increasingly common phenomenon.”[3] The effect is related to John Gilmore's observation that "The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it."[4]

The Collaborative Organization of Knowledge
Wikipedia’s incremental-growth model, apart from providing an in-vivo validation of Barabási’s scale-free network-development theory, suggests that the processes we have discovered may continue to shape Wikipedia in the future. Wikipedia growth could be limited by invisible subjective boundaries related to the interests of its contributors. Our growth model suggests how these boundaries might be bridged. Consider that references to nonexistent entries prompt creation of these entries and assume that all human knowledge forms a fully connected network. Through a breadth-first graph traversal or flood-filling process Wikipedia’s coverage will broaden, albeit over an uneven time progression.

blog dds: 2008.07.30 - Wikipedia Faces no Limits to Grow
We studied the entire Wikipedia corpus, 485 Gbytes of data, adding up to 1.9 million pages and 28.2 million revisions. Using a suite of tools we developed, we showed that the ratio of undefined to defined concepts in Wikipedia has been stable over time. Furthermore, we found that articles are added to Wikipedia in a collaborative fashion: Wikipedians often add a new article when they encounter a missing entry. Finally, we established that Wikipedia grows in a manner similar to that witnessed in a number of different areas, by having new articles linked to the most popular existing articles. This pattern of growth, called preferential attachment, has been used to explain the number of species per genus, the internet, the world-wide-web, scientific citations, collaboration networks between people, and others. It is the first time preferential attachment has been studied live at a structure of this size.
