The kind of people who are affected by The Ann Arbor News becoming annarbor.com are generally less hardcore about their sports coverage.

But with the transition to the web, they are promising to link out a lot, so having more of a two-way relationship with the local news sites would help, probably just in terms of Google ranking and maybe some traffic. Right now I link to them and The Free Press fairly often, and I don’t think I’ve ever received a link from any of those sources. That seems a little unbalanced.

Weirdest moment, even for a U-M fan: When Christine Lahti ("Chicago Hope"), got introduced as one of the two newest film festival board members, she offered Michael Moore, a Spartan fan, a U-M baseball cap. He agreed to don the cap only if someone would pledge $500 to the theater. Some kid in the audience did, and "Chad" became the night's big celebrity by volunteering his "orthodontist uncle," whom he said was a big U-M fan, and not such a big Michael Moore fan. A bidding war between UM and MSU fans apparently ensued later at the opening night party, with the tally up to a few thousand dollars so far.
