Walt at Random » Blog Archive » Liblog profiles (Liblog Landscape 2007-2008, 11)
In this case, the answer actually is in the chapter discussed here–Chapter 12, Liblog Profiles, which makes up somewhat more than half of The Liblog Landscape 2007-2008: A Lateral Look.

And, for those who somehow missed it over the past week or so, the book is on sale for an introductory price of $22.50 from now through January 15, 2009, only from Lulu.

Changing how fans follow Michigan football | The Michigan Daily
To put it simply, Cook’s website has become the place for Michigan football coverage. In just a few years, he has overthrown the ranks of professional journalists who cover the team, representing a drastic change in the culture of news coverage (in this case, the coverage of Michigan football), a change that most major newspapers have yet to adapt to. Traditional sports coverage is vulnerable to new competition in its own way. As Cook has shown, a guy in the stands can have an edge over the big-name columnists in the press box.

Rosenfeld Media - Future Practice Interview: Luke Wroblewski
Luke Wroblewski: What I try to encourage teams to do is reflect the core essence of their service with a few lightweight interactions. If you can make people successful along the way—even better. Will Wright, the creator of the Sims & Spore, has a belief that games should allow people to succeed within the first five seconds. That's a great philosophy to bring to gradual engagement. In fact, I think if you can use lightweight actions to allow people to accomplish something relevant to the core of your product within their first one or two interactions with your service, that's gradual engagement at its finest.

Kevin, M.D. - Medical Weblog: Medical records and Facebook
It would be nice if an electronic record was designed with the singular focus being the end-user experience. They should make physician's lives immeasurably easier, and significantly decrease the time spent charting and tracking patients. There are very few record systems that meet even this minimal standard. An EMR like Facebook? We can only wish.

Urban Dragon Hunters
Most ecologists like to work in pristine areas. Urban areas are largely ignored. Since 2001, we have recorded 46 new species for Wayne County, MI, bringing the total to 95 species (there's a link to the checklist below).
