25 Cartoon Characters Whose Real Names You Never Knew.
Although we know quite a few famous cartoon characters by first names or nicknames only – Casper, Shaggy, Scooby-Doo and Peppermint Patty, for example – many of them have “real” names. I mean, do you think Shaggy’s mom really calls him “Shaggy”? Nope, when mom calls, Shaggy answers to “Norville.” Buzzfeed has uncovered the full names of 24 other characters like this. Your mind will be blown.

Pop-culture money.
I can't decide what my favorite is. The Oompa-Loompa is fantastic, the Princess Leia and Walter are also super solid. But face-hugger Lincoln might take the cake.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
One of the joys and privileges I had during my time at Filmation was checking out what artists in other departments were creating. I especially sought out the background painters and layout artists, marveling at their work. One day after work, I spied blue pencil drawings sticking out of a folder lying in the open dumpster next to my car. After a quick check for possible witnesses, I dove in and retrieved a treasure of 1st season Masters of the Universe background layouts.

Star Wars as Classic Art
These are really good. "It's no secret that the Something Awful Forum Goons love inserting Star Wars references into things, and this week that love runs wild and untamed. Using classic art as their canvas, they, uh, paint in Star Wars references. If you enjoy the wonders of art and/or the darling antics of beepy robots and outer space wizards, this Phriday is for you!"

When kids these days tell me how wild or crazy their favorite band is, like Slipknot or Marilyn Manson, I utter three words to them: “The Butthole Surfers.”
A great article about how great the Butthole Surfers were live. How crazy, how nuts, and how great. For starters they were total freaks. Drummer King Koffey and his “sister” Theresa played the double drums like they were from another planet, the bassist Jeff had a backwards Mohawk and looked like he was having trouble staying awake, guitarist Paul Leary was cross-eyed on purpose Last, but certainly not least, was seven-foot tall, Gibby Haynes. No shirt, gut hanging out, long greasy hair, yelling at whomever he could yell at. The guy was fucking scary.

If you watch the Brady Bunch backwards, you find out they killed Oliver, and the grief over his "disappearance" caused the family to split with the mom taking the girls and the dad taking the boys.

Surprising stories behind 20 Muppet characters - CNN.com
Fascinating. Did you know Oscar the Grouch was originally an alarming shade of orange. In Pakistan, his name is Akhtar and he lives in an oil barrel. In Turkey, he is Kirpik and lives in a basket. And in Israel, it's not Oscar at all -- it's his cousin, Moishe Oofnik, who lives in an old car.

Slave reunion photo from 1916
Wow. This is a photo from 1916 of 4 former slaves. They're all over 100 years old. James Madison was president when they were born, and America was 36 years old. And here they are in a relatively "modern" photo. I'm blown away.

Movie Poster Remakes.
Olly has decided to create a series of movie posters reinterperated in a kinda minimalistic post modern German-ism style. Six posters (The Dark Knight, Die Hard, Deer Hunter, Rain Man, The Great Dictator, and American History X) are listed here. The Deer Hunter and Die Hard are probably the best in my opinion.

Top 50 movie special effects shots - Den of Geek
This is not a list of 'iconic' SFX shots, such as the opening shot in Star Wars or the final shot in Back To The Future, etc. There are many fantastic SFX shots in cinema history that are artistically 'awesome' without qualifying here. For the purposes of this list, a shot has to be either a) exceptionally convincing, b) ground-breaking or c) an exemplary execution of an oft-used technique. Only one shot is allowed per film.
