Future Giant Ring of Black Holes
february 2011 by tstephens
Arp 147 contains the remnant of a spiral galaxy that collided with a elliptical galaxy.
This collision has produced an expanding wave of star formation that has an abundance of massive young stars. These stars race through their evolution in a few million years or less and explode as supernovas, leaving behind neutron stars and black holes.

Galactic Center of Milky Way Rises over Texas

Great time-lapse video showing the stars and the Milky Way rotate and move overhead. I wish that you could see the stars like this where I'm at without driving way out into the sticks.

Incredible quadruple transit on Saturn! | Bad Astronomy | Discover Magazine
march 2009 by tstephens
OK, duh, that’s Saturn. But you can see four moons crossing its face at the same time! Such an event is pretty rare, and very cool. The moons are (from left to right) Enceladus, Dione, Titan, and Mimas. You can also see the shadows of Enceladus and Dione on the planet’s cloudtops, too.
