The conference is organised by Techspectations  and the new Irish Centre for Cloud Computing and Commerce both located at DCU Business School and is sponsored by Microsoft. It forms part of National Cloud Week, a series of events taking place from April 23rd to 28th designed to raise further awareness of the role that cloud computing can play in helping to drive economic growth, support job creation and to deliver savings and efficiencies in the public and private sector in Ireland.

The Irish Defence Forces deployed to a greenfield site in Liberia in 2004, and had to build Comms/IT infrastructure from the ground up. The Irish Army is well-experienced with these kinds of deployments. They are far-removed from air-conditioned, climate-controlled comms rooms. I cut my eyeteeth in the undergrowth of central America where we placated the locals by letting them plug their cookers into the mains generators of our mobile command post.
