Open Rights Group | The Music Industry Needs Fair and Open Markets, Not Regulation
Not only should the digital market be single, it should also be open and fair. Nobody can blame companies for trying to get the best deal they can, but even with the best intentions it is sometimes too easy to overstep the mark. The list of ways music rights owners can line their own pockets at the expense of artists, investors in and developers of music services, and other music stakeholders, is a long and unedifying one. It might temporarily be good for the company concerned, but it is bad for the market and bad for business.

Commodify Your Dissent
Corporate America is not an oppressor but a sponsor of fun, provider of lifestyle accoutrements, facilitator of carnival, our slang-speaking partner in the quest for that ever-more apocalyptic orgasm. The countercultural idea has become capitalist orthodoxy, its hunger for transgression upon transgression now perfectly suited to an economic-cultural regime that runs on ever-faster cyclings of the new; its taste for self-fulfillment and its intolerance for the confines of tradition now permitting vast latitude in consuming practices and lifestyle experimentation.
