Bassam Alghanim's Email-Hacking Allegations Against His Brother, Kutayba, Exposes Hackers-For-Hire Trade - WSJ.com
january 2012 by thesullster
According to Mr. Zimmer's statement, the IHG (Invisible Hacking Group) service worked like this: It requested the target person's email address, the names of friends or colleagues, and examples of topics that interest them. The hackers would then send an email to the target that sounded as if it came from an acquaintance, but which actually installed malicious software on the target's computer. The software would let the hackers capture the target's email password.

Safari/MacBook first to fall at Pwn2Own 2011 | ZDNet
march 2011 by thesullster
He said the creation of a reliable exploit was “much more difficult” than finding the vulnerability.
“There are many WebKit vulnerabilities. You can run a fuzzer and get lots of good results. But it’s much more difficult to exploit it on x64 and to make your exploit very reliable,” he said.
Bekrar’s winning exploit did not even crash the browser after exploitation. Within five seconds of surfing to the rigged site, he successfully launched the calculator app and wrote a file on the disk without crashing the browser.
The victim visits a web page, he gets owned. No other interaction is needed.
