We always had tennis racquets and tennis balls around my house but I never knew anyone that actually knew how to play. We learned badminton and volleyball in school so we figured it was something like that. Once or twice a year I would go down to one of the local parks that had tennis [...]

The System 535: Girls Don’t… (Continued)
october 2011 by squirrel
A followup to yesterday’s comic, I couldn’t resist.
I’m not the first to use the term “Schrödinger’s Poop” (so glad THAT’S now in my search history), but I think I’m using it best. Of course, previously featured was a quick history on why Schrödinger used a cat and not a dog, which you should go read here.

One day back in grade school a kid noticed a big grey bulbous thing hanging from a tree in the playground. It was too high to reach so of course we threw rocks and sticks at it. Finally someone got a direct hit on it and it tore open. I was surprised that it appeared [...]

Remember, when you’re having long gaming sessions, get up and stretch every couple of days and call your loved ones to tell them that you are still alive.
I’ve never really been a 100% completion kind of guy, but Just Cause 2 really brings it out of me. This comic is essentially what Just Cause 2 will do to me if I’m not careful.
The story part of the game is actually incredibly short, but after that finishes up, there’s a whole world to explore. Over 400 square miles of world to be exact. Yeah, that’s a lot of world. I’m actually almost done with the game though, so soon I will be on to another game that will suck up my free time =)

The System 500: Looking Back
june 2011 by squirrel
Ah, 500! As usual with the hundred-posts, here is a comic with recaps from the last hundred comics. If you like this one, check out the other recap-comics from 400, 300, 200 and 100. Of course, to fully appreciate it, you may want to go back and read the last 100 comics, and see if you can name where all the panels are from. CAN YOU?
So there we are! 500 comics. Wow. I don’t even know where to start. Back in July 2008 when I started, I don’t know if I really thought I could make it this far. Mostly right now I’m thinking back to where things were a year ago, and all the successes that have happened. Some big comics, like the “See Something Cite Something” chart, “Types of Typos”, “Bowser Testing” and “Road Sage”. Some big events, like speaking at SXSW, the huge growth and success of Super Art Fight, changing jobs, and growing the HilariAwesome.com store. Makes me wonder what will happen in the future…
If you want some big news, here it is! The first The System book is FINALLY getting done! I’m working on the best way to post the preorder, but it will finally be coming out. It’ll be about $20, so start saving and get ready! I wanted to get the preorder up today, but it makes sense to just wait and do it right. Stay tuned.
Thank you all so, so much for reading, sharing, commenting and doing everything you do that turns this website into a community. It is all appreciated and keeps me posting. I wish I could say 500 meant big changes, but really I’m proud to say that you can expect more of the same, only better.
So share your favorite comics from the last 100 in the comments, and see you Wednesday!

There’s a weird cognitive dissonance that can happen when you see something bad simultaneously happening to a person and an object of some value. “Oh nuts, my wife didn’t see the edge of that rug sticking up and now she is flying headfirst across the living room onto the hardwood floor and I wonder if she emailed that document she was just editing a few moments ago because that laptop sure looks like it’s going to go through that open doorway and down those cement stairs into the basement.”

I remember when I was a kid how facial recognition software was a crazy thing reserved for sci-fi movies. I was really excited when I got my first taste of it on my own computer. I was simultaneously amazed at how good and bad it was. It worked great at finding more pictures of people I had already identified but it also constantly found faces in rocks and trees. My favorite moment though was when I scanned a photo of myself at 2 years old and it identified the face as belonging to my then 2 year old son.
