"Welcome to the URLTeam website. The URLTeam is the ArchiveTeam subcommittee on URL shorteners. We believe that they pose a serious threat to the internet's integrity. If one of them dies, gets hacked or sells out, millions of links will stop working. Thus we preemptively release backups, because URL shorteners are too busy to make backups themselves."

rev=canonical: url shortening that doesn't hurt the internet
april 2009 by soypunk
"RevCanonical is url shortening with a twist. Instead of creating its own super short versions of links, it checks to see if the link owner has published a shortened version of the given page using HTML link element. If not, we just return the original URL. And you should bug the link owner about providing a better alternative."

URI Desk Calculator
march 2009 by soypunk
"This page allows the user to test the effect of various string functions used in URI creation, processing, or interpretation. Its initial intention is to help debug the atomic pieces of what will become more elaborate processing routines, but it may also be helpful in exploring the consequences of various design decisions in URI-related specifications."

TidBITS - Safari 4: Undesired consequences of Top Sites
march 2009 by soypunk
"Unfortunately, since Top Sites accesses the frequently seen websites between my own viewings, if I am logged in, the forum software updates local cookies to reset the update point threads before I manually get to them, so that the only newly updated threads are those that have been updated since the last 'Top Sites' access " ouch.

ongoing · Get In the Cloud
october 2008 by soypunk
"You know, there is already sort of a cloud ecosystem out there in the world of PHP. There are a whole bunch of competitive vendors where you can upload a bunch of .php files and database dumps and with only a moderate amount of twiddling, get your app running. I don’t think that PHP is the best way to build Web apps. But increasingly, I’m developing an appreciation for its ecosystem." ditto.
