IBM should have been offering Asterisk years ago, but this is very welcome. an intriguing move for Big Blue re: SMB and medium sized customers.

this would be interesting, particularly if Google opened the protocol; i suspect Google's appetite for the service would depend on how well they could mine the traffic. it doesn't fit with their usual M&A profile, however.
