Amy Phillips, Watch the Violent Video for Jay-Z and Kanye West's "No Church in the Wild":

Like his video for M.I.A.'s "Born Free", director Romain Gavras's clip for Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne track "No Church in the Wild" takes place in a brutal police state. It features a mob taking on the authorities with Molotov cocktails, fireworks, lasers, and, randomly, an elephant. Gotta say: Kanye's "you will not control the threesome"/"never fuck nobody without telling me" verse seems pretty out of place when you're watching a cop get set on fire.

All in all, a big change from the Greaty Gatsby trailer.

Carrie Battan, LCD Soundsystem Documentary Film Shut Up and Play the Hits Coming to Theaters in July:

The LCD Soundsystem documentary Shut Up and Play the Hits will hit theaters across the U.S. on July 18 as a special "one-night-only engagement". In addition to the list of theaters posted here, fans can "demand" a screening in their area via Eventful.

Shut Up and Play the Hits, which has only screened at film festivals thus far, chronicles the events surrounding the band's final show at Madison Square Garden last April. It was directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace. The film is being distributed by Oscilloscope Laboratories, the production and distribution company of late Beastie Boy Adam Yauch. Before he died, Yauch said of the documentary: "It can be pretty clear when a band starts, but perhaps less so when it ends, or how it should end. In that sense, it's brilliant of James [Murphy] to end it in such a definitive way."

Oscilloscope and the Creators Project are running a contest to fly one person and guest to New York City for a screening plus a meet-and-greet with James Murphy. Details here.

Regisseur Wasaru und Charakterzeichner Jérémy Couturier haben zudem die besten Voraussetzungen dafür geschaffen, mit ihrem phänomenalen Animationsclip zur mitreißenden Single "Parler le fracas" den Bandruhm merklich zu vergrößern. The Atlantic resümiert:

Tanja Pimpette, Entfremdung – Kate Moss Supreme Plakate:

Was passiert in der Zeit, wenn auf Pimpettes nichts gepostet wird? Dann bin ich im Urlaub und knipse was das Zeug hält und mache halt so Tourisachen. Die ursprünglichen Kate-Moss-Plakate für Supreme fand ich so naja, weil ich Kate Moss einfach nicht mehr sehen und auch nicht wirklich leiden kann. Die Alte ist durch und Supreme soll sich lieber weiterhin mit Kermit, Lou Reed und Co schmücken. Die entfremdeten Plakate mit Penissen, Schnauzern, dummen Anmerkungen und sonstigem finde ich ansprechender. Wir werden daher einfach mehrere Parties feiern um auf Nummer sicher zu gehen. Klar ist auf jeden fall, dass wir mit Ji-Hun ein Primzahlenevent feiern “Second Service” mit Quarion und Kim Brown, denn er war ganz sicher auch am ersten Wochenende dabei um seinen eigenen Geburtstag zu feiern (alles gute).

pEtEr Withoutfield, U8, das Heroin und mein Dilemma:

Das Amen-Projekt eines UDK Studenten machte die letzten Wochen zurecht die große Runde durch viele Blogs und alle Kanäle. Für seine Bachelor Arbeit entwarf der Student Plakate im Amen-Style und platzierte diese an die dazugehörigen Orte in Berlin. Eine tolle und schöne Idee, die nun auch die BLÖD-Zeitung in ihrer heutigen Ausgabe in den Regionalteil packte.

Das tolle – aber auch schlimme – an dieser Aktion ist der Wahrheitsgehalt der Aussagen auf den Plakaten. Schon lange wollte ich etwas dazu schreiben, fand aber nicht die Zeit. Nun aber könnte der Anlass nicht passender sein.

Ich bringe fast jeden morgen unseren großen Nachwuchsrebellen zur Schule. Dafür müssen wir vom Moritzplatz nach Mitte mit der besagten U8 fahren und bekommen den Drogenhandel hautnah mit.
Schon früh morgens um 7:30 Uhr lungern die Dealer, meist eine Gruppe von 5-10 Leuten, auf dem Bahnsteig herum und geben sich nicht einmal die Mühe ihre Geschäfte auch nur ansatzweise geheim zu halten. Wenn sie nicht am Moritzplatz herum hängen, fahren sie eine Station weiter zur Heinrich-Heine-Straße und steigen dort wieder aus. Dort wartet dann die nächste Kundschaft auf ihren Stoff. Ist der Checker mit dem Stoff gerade am anderen Bahnhof, wird die Kundschaft von dessen Entourage einfach mit zurück zur nächsten Station genommen. Das ganze Spiel ist so offensichtlich, dass es jedem auffallen sollte, der zwei mal diese Strecke gefahren ist.

Bevor ich Kinder hatte war mir so etwas relativ wurscht, heute muss ich allerdings ehrlich zugeben, dass mir das tierisch auf den Sack geht! Meinem Sohn ist der Handel zum Glück noch nicht aufgefallen und ich musste ihm das noch nicht erklären. Trotzdem steht jetzt schon fest, dass mein Sohn in absehbarer Zeit definitiv nicht alleine diese Fahrt auf sich nehmen wird.

Tja und nun sitze ich “Oberrebell” hier, schreibe diese Zeilen und frage mich, ob ich nun wirklich so spießig geworden bin wie ich mich gerade fühle. Muss man so etwas akzeptieren wenn man in Kreuzberg wohnt? Schaut man da einfach weg? Bekomme ich den Gentrifizierungs-Knüppel um die Ohren geschlagen, wenn ich mir wünsche, dass das aufhört? Oder muss man mit Kindern dann doch einfach Kreuzberg verlassen und in den Speckgürtel ziehen? Ich weiß es nicht.

The Atlantic hat gerade eine wirklich schwer beeindruckende Foto-Sammlung, die die Welt von oben zeigt. Das sieht manchmal gar nicht so real aus, ist es aber wohl.

Das hier ist in Paraguay und sieht eher nach einer Map für ein Computerspiel aus.

Das ist dann ja wohl der feuchte Traum aller kleinen, deutschen Vorstadt-Ghetto-Schlampen. Stellt es euch vor. Wie großartig das doch sein müsste. Ihr schnappt euch die Jungs und das Mädel und den weißen Typen namens Lucas, der scheinbar immer die heißesten Ulrikes abzubekommen scheint, von Odd Future, werft die Rasselbande gemeinsam mit ein wenig Spielzeug, 'ner Menge Bling-Bling und Terry Richardson in ein Studio und haltet dann die Kamera drauf. Vorzugsweise eine, die Fotos und Videos machen kann. Mehr Spaß als mit Tyler The Creator, Frank Ocean & Co. in einem Raum dürfte quasi schlichtweg nicht möglich sein. Die dazugehörige Fotoserie heißt "Wild Ones" und ist im XXL Magazine erschienen.

Schmitz, whose civil name is Jan Jasper Kosok, currently runs the small but mighty music and text blog knicken that managed to gather a loyal crowd of music lovers. He also follows a rather conventional job as an online editor at a likeable, rather leftist, German newspaper. However, this doesn’t keep him from being an ardent supporter of the football team Borussia Dortmund, a team he has back-boned since childhood. Apart from this permissible, exotic deviation, he is closely connected to his Kiez where he is greeted by overwhelming Mediterranean warmth from every store owner between Kottbusser Tor and Görlitzer Bahnhof.
As well, he has a real knack for good tunes and Haiku’s. But let’s leave it at that, before this text turns into an worshipping anthem. Enjoy the mixtape!

We rarely post shaky-cam festival footage of forthcoming tracks, I know. But, our anticpation levels are quite high for the forthcoming Breakbot album so we are making an exception. His next single, “By Your Side” (once again featuring the vocals of Irfane) is due for release June 18th with remixes from Oliver & Dj Sneak. The thought of Oliver + Breakbot makes me very happy.

We are beyond psyched about this year’s show, which promises to be the party of the summer thanks to an incredible lineup, featuring Italians Do It Better labelmates Glass Candy + Chromatics, Twin Sister, Taken By Trees, Laurel Halo, and Dallas’ own A.Dd+. Chris, Just Friends (Nicolas Jaar + Sasha Spielberg) – “Avalanche”:

Feels a little ridiculous calling Nicolas Jaar’s The Prism one of our favorite releases of 2012 so far, as the tracks come housed in a tiny, fragile (ours already broke), very cool looking $40 aluminum cube that most people won’t be able to hear until Jaar decides to release all of these tracks digitally. A few Prism tracks surfaced over the weekend though — buried deep inside Jaar’s perfect Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 — so I guess it’s cool now. Included was this stunning cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Avalanche” by Just Friends, a “collaborative covers project” that Jaar started with Steven Spielberg + Kate Capshaw’s daughter Sasha (not the first time Jaar has collabed with Hollywood progeny to create something amazing). Here’s the audio of the song from the mix, but you’ll have to pick up a Prism to hear the pristine version:

Ian Francis’s art is all about exploring notions of the Internet, celebrity, cinema, global fears and threats, pornography, the over saturation of the mass media, and thirst for news coverage of sex, death, war. Using vast and often empty landscapes, with hints of despair, melancholy and alienation, Francis plays figurative elements against abstract backgrounds, using the act of painting as a way of processing the information gathered from Internet binges and forging a world of escapism within his paintings.

Evan Minsker, New Teengirl Fantasy: "Motif":

Electronic duo Teengirl Fantasy have a new album out later this year on R&S/True Panther, but first, they've got a new single due on R&S. "Motif" will be out on 12" June 25 and digitally July 9. The B-side features a track called "Eternal" and a remix of "Motif" by Actress. "Motif" won't be included on the album, but "Eternal" will.

Samantha Dalrymple, Dream Diary: a twisted art series by Vaka Valo:
When I first stumbled upon Vaka Valo’s works entitled Dream Diary, it made me wonder if he actually dreamt these or if he just made them out of fun due to it’s twisted content: from people being chloroformed to someone torturing people with household items. With the illustrations giving off a feel of old instructional-like images, this series really defines dark humor in an oddly beautiful way.
