Dungeon Family - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
4 weeks ago by rybesh
The Dungeon Family is a hip hop/R&B/soul musical collective, based in Atlanta, Georgia and specializing in Southern hip hop with heavy funk and soul influences. The group derives its name from "The Dungeon", the name given to record producer Rico Wade's basement studio where many of the early members of the collective did their first recordings. Rico Wade, Ray Murray, and Sleepy Brown constitute the production/songwriting team Organized Noize, who have produced hits for the main popular Dungeon Family groups OutKast and Goodie Mob.

Julian Cope presents Head Heritage | Unsung | Reviews | Don Cherry - Organic Music Society 2LP
8 weeks ago by rybesh
This leads in to one of the most beautiful pieces Cherry ever wrote - and one of his late-period, signature works: “Hope” (later recorded for Relativity Suite under the name “Desireless” with sax replacing the voice). A golden flurry of rippling piano chords (ala Alice Coltrane and, also, Magma’s own John Coltrane ode’ “Coltrane Sundia” from Kohntarkoz), and a yearning, wordless wail issues from Cherry. He sounds like he is bearing all the troubles of the world single-handedly, and, yet, is still willing to humble himself before us all. Spell-bindingly beautiful in its soul-baring simplicity, the tune develops into a steady-paced piano & vocal chant - a hymn to an earlier ‘age of the Ancients.’ 10 minutes of free-bliss - the flutes, and sun-drenched cymbal strokes, adjoining the groove to create pure musical manna from heaven.

mimaroglu music sales ☞ artists ☞ derek monypeny
march 2011 by rybesh
february 2011 release ; awesome set of solo, amplified oud recordings (dry, side one) & oud / percussion duets (coated with electronic effects, side two) from oaxacan guitarist derek monypeny (remember that boss double-tape of field recordings & guitar solos on weird forest ? damn, wish we had more of those ...) self-issued as the first title on his raheem label ...
... the minimal, transfixing meditations on the a-side are downright sublime, reminding me of the oud pieces scattered across the sandy bull vanguard records just a little bit ... but given my nature i’m going to side with the auto-gate / wah / pan blasters on the flip, due to heightened levels of disorientation experienced during broadcast, lingering for just a little longer than the appropriate period(s) post needle-lift ...
well-considered edition ; full-color cover & color labels, with a big ‘ol high-blur shot of the pyramids on the front & a quite detailed image of some fine aperiodic tessellations on the back (both rather apropos of the alternating levels of detail & haze therein) ; highly recommended !!!
