mod_pagespeed Examples Directory
"Here are some of the most useful filters provided by mod_pagespeed. Each one has a simple HTML example attached; click "before" to see the original file, and "after" to see what mod_pagespeed produces with that filter (and only that filter) enabled. The two versions should look exactly the same, but the "after" one will be (slightly) speedier. Use "view source" to see the mod_pagespeed difference!"

skipfish - Project Hosting on Google Code
"A fully automated, active web application security reconnaissance tool. Key features:

* High speed: pure C code, highly optimized HTTP handling, minimal CPU footprint - easily achieving 2000 requests per second with responsive targets.

* Ease of use: heuristics to support a variety of quirky web frameworks and mixed-technology sites, with automatic learning capabilities, on-the-fly wordlist creation, and form autocompletion.

* Cutting-edge security logic: high quality, low false positive, differential security checks, capable of spotting a range of subtle flaws, including blind injection vectors.

The tool is believed to support Linux, FreeBSD, MacOS X, and Windows (Cygwin) environments. "

Life Below 600px | I Am Paddy
"I think I've made my point. We all know, people have learned to scroll. They did a long time ago, but still the 'everything needs to be above the fold' concept lingers on.

Many web designers, after presenting a site design, hear the client worriedly ask 'But, where is the fold?!' Your first response is usually to switch on the guides in Photoshop to show and they then nervously say 'Hmm, yeah, we're going to need those articles, and those links, and those 6 images all above the fold.'

And there goes any sense of white space, readability and story telling you had planned for their site. •"

Git Tip: Auto update working tree via post-receive hook » Debuggable Ltd
"Oh, this one took me a while to figure out. Lets say you want to setup a git repository on your server that whenever you push into it updates its working tree. Why? Well, because this can be a very convenient workflow for a small project where you want to be able to quickly push changes out without any fancy deploy mechanism."

Evan Williams | evhead: Ten Rules for Web Startups
"You know that old saw about a plane flying from California to Hawaii being off course 99% of the time—but constantly correcting? The same is true of successful startups—except they may start out heading toward Alaska. Many dot-com bubble companies that died could have eventually been successful had they been able to adjust and change their plans instead of running as fast as they could until they burned out, based on their initial assumptions. Pyra was started to build a project-management app, not Blogger. Flickr's company was building a game. Ebay was going to sell auction software. Initial assumptions are almost always wrong."
