F.lux: software to make your life better
june 2011 by roel
During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.
F.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.
It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

EeeUser ASUS Eee PC Forum / HOWTO: Taming the Eee 1000H - Windows Edition
december 2008 by roel
As I'm sure some of you are aware, my 1000H is dual-booting WinXP and Kubuntu. I think I've spent enough time taming Kubuntu, now it's time to move onto taming the big dog.. Windows XP. Let's start by cleaning up some of the junk on the base XP install. Admittedly it's not as bad as some machines (I once tried to clean up the base install on a Vaio for a friend - operative word: tried), it isn't as fast as it could be...

Go-OO - Your Office Suite
november 2008 by roel
Go-oo has built in OpenXML import filters and it will import your Microsoft Works files. Compared with up-stream OO.o, it has better Microsoft binary file support (with eg. fields support), and it will import WordPerfect graphics beautifully. If you are reliant on Excel VBA macros - then Go-oo offers the best macro fidelity too. If you expect your spreadsheets to calculate compatibly, or you get embedded Visio diagrams in your documents, you'll want Go-oo.
