Shoebox
october 2011 by roel
Shoebox, the iPhone App, makes it easy to scan old paper photos and share them with family and friends. It helps you bring albums, scrapbooks, and photo-filled “shoeboxes” out of the closet and into an online, shareable space where they can be organized and shared with family and friends. Shoebox’s edge detection and perspective correction make sure that the paper photographs you scan turn out beautifully. After scanning, you can quickly crop, straighten, rotate your photo, as well as record the stories behind the photographs by adding captions, dates, and tags. The quality of camera phones has increased so much that your handy iPhone is now as good as the clunky piece of hardware you have next to your computer, and with none of the wires or drivers. The new iPhone 4S offers a 8 megapixel camera that takes images at 2448×3264 resolution. Using Shoebox to scan a typical 4″x6″ photo produces a DPI of 550 – the same high quality recommended by scanning experts like ScanCafe.

Initial DP2 review with full size shots.. | Carl Rytterfalk Fotografi
april 2009 by roel
Hi all, you probably wondered where I’ve been hiding - some of you know about me moving and trying to build a new home (repairing that is) and it’s taken more energy than I hoped for. Now - one bright light lately have been the Dp2. I will be making this very short and let pictures speak loud - as the camera that I used isn’t the final production unit.

10 Ways to Take Stunning Portraits
march 2009 by roel
Today and tomorrow I want to talk about taking Portraits that are a little out of the box. You see it’s all very well and good to have a portrait that follows all the rules - but it hit me as I was surfing on Flickr today that often the most striking portraits are those that break all the rules.

10 Principles of Beautiful Photography
february 2009 by roel
A camera does not work like an eye; memory does not work like film. There is a fine line between a photo that is quite nice and one that is quite breathtaking. At some undefined point, a photo can cross the Rubicon and be forever a piece of beautiful art. That hinterland between a regular photo and evocative art is a moving target from person to person and taste to taste. However, that zone of wonderment can be narrowed a bit once you start to consider about the way the brain stores memories and emotions.

Geotagging and Adobe Lightroom | Fotohacker
november 2008 by roel
In a Mac environment, GPSPhotoLinker lets you download your GPS track log, and then matches up your photos to the GPS data. It does that by comparing the timestamp in your photo’s Exif data to the timestamps in your GPS track log. Once done, it can create a GPX file. For a Windows machine, RoboGeo is your best bet, and it basically does the same thing as the GPSTrackLog application for the Mac, and also exports a GPX file.
