Welcome on the site of Stephan Vanfleteren. It proposes a portfolio of this Belgian photographer, who concentrates on stills of every day life. Vanfleteren works as a freelance photographer for the weekend supplement Zeno in the newspaper De Morgen. He also works for international magazines and invests a lot of time in personal projects.

While I am pretty busy keeping Photofocus.com full of good info, I do take time to read other photo blogs and publications and listen to or watch other podcasts. So here’s a list of SOME of my current favorites is no particular order.

Unforgettable Wilderness Photography

My Uncle “Sambo” was a WW II “Top Gun” pilot, he drove a Corvette and he was a photographer—wow what a mix! He was the one who really helped me move from being a snap shooter to being a photographer when I was about 11.We used to go out and shoot together, I’ll never forget when he told me that I had to “frame” my photographs. He said, “if you just shoot this field with that tree in the middle of it, it has no real impact. But look, move over here with the oak tree at the edge of the frame and now look at it.” He was right, it was like magic, the shot just looked better!

These nine people (in no particular order) have at least two things in common: there’s all really excellent photographers, and they’ve all been members of JPG.

Er zijn genoeg fotografen die er niks mee hebben, maar persoonlijk zweer ik bij een tekentablet voor het bewerken van foto's. Zelf werk ik al een aantal jaar op een Wacom Graphire4. Van Wacom kreeg ik hun Bamboo model ter review opgestuurd en dus moest mijn Graphire hier een paar weken het veld voor ruimen.

Woot! Today I get to be among the very first to share with you the planet’s newest camera: the much-anticipated Nikon D90. You may have been attuned to all the recent leaks, buzz and rumors of a new Nikon camera coming soon, but I can assure you, this here ain’t no rumor. It’s the real deal and I know so because my crew and I spent several weeks testing and experimenting with this gem months in advance of today’s release, and our efforts make up the launch campaign.

Am so enthralled with the photographic work of Czech artist Miroslav Tichy, who made cameras out of cardboard tubes, thread spools, rubber bands, and other similar things, and then photographed public scenes in his small hometown. He developed the negatives in a bucket at night, because he didn't have a darkroom. Later, he said that the defects and ugliness were where the true art happened.

Yesterday I came across a slightly mysterious website — a collection of Polaroids, one per day, from March 31, 1979 through October 25, 1997. There’s no author listed, no contact info, and no other indication as to where these came from. So, naturally

Any picture can speak 1,000 words, but only a select few say something poignant enough to galvanize an entire society. The following photographs screamed so loudly that the entire world stopped to take notice.
