The trick I’ve used is to create subdomains for each static page. My personal blog is at jerrybrito.org, but my about page is at about.jerrybrito.org. That “about” subdomain is not hosted by Tumblr; it’s hosted on my own server. I simply took the HTML for my Tumblr template and replaced the dynamic content (the code that calls for the blog posts) with the static text of my about page. Voila, a static page for Tumblr.

What makes iWeb so great? Compared to Photoshop, iWeb is quick and easy. You can create the components you need for mockups, experiment with different fonts and colors, shuffle things around to explore layouts using dynamic alignment guides, and drag and drop images and videos from the Media Browser. Page size expands automatically to accommodate new content, and iWeb looks like a web browser, so it’s easier to visualize how your page will look.

Jonathan Diba writes to ask how the effects are achieve on Tim Van Damme’s portfolio site, referring to Tim’s site as one of the most compelling site design he’s seen.

The two key effects Tim is using are a simplified accordion and a hover effect. It’s worth noting that the hover effect only works in WebKit (Safari & Chrome), but I’ll show you how to create the effect using jQuery too.

All the symbols have been designed & created by Sander Baumann and set to the proportions of a regular typeface, so you no longer need to copy/paste the symbols into your designs.
