Cocoa Literature
Articles about programming in Cocoa are many and in many places. The majority of them are of very high quality. To help out, I made this collected index, searchable by title or by article content. This page is very easy to maintain, so please email me any other articles out there that I've missed. Of course, make sure you also know about Apple's Cocoa docs! Also note that there are many Cocoa languages beyond Objective-C.

Dodgy Coder: Scalability lessons from Google, YouTube, Twitter, Amazon, eBay, Facebook and Instagram
Keep it simple - complexity will come naturally over time.
Automate everything, including failure recovery.
Iterate your solutions - be prepared to throw away a working component when you want to scale it up to the next level.
Use the right tool for the job, but don't be afraid to roll your own solution.
Use caching, where appropriate.

Are software patents evil? — RoughlyDrafted Magazine
Ask anyone covering the patent wars currently being waged between Oracle and Google, or between Apple and HTC and Motorola and Kodak, or Lodsys and iOS developers, and regardless of their opinion about legal liability they’ll tell you that the patent system is broken, and more often than not, that patents on software are sort of evil and should probably just go away. But are patents really that bad?

Understanding JavaScript Function Invocation and “this” « Katz Got Your Tongue?
a lot of people have complained that the semantics of `this` in function invocations is confusing. In my opinion, a lot of this confusion is cleared up by understanding the core function invocation primitive, and then looking at all other ways of invoking a function as sugar on top of that primitive. In fact, this is exactly how the ECMAScript spec thinks about it. In some areas, this post is a simplification of the spec, but the basic idea is the same.

A Small Introduction to Nikola Tesla
Our lives today are dependent upon a bewildering amount of technology, much of which we take for granted. Indeed, some of that technology is so pervasive that we forget it even is technology.

Perhaps that's one reason why so many have forgotten the name of Serbian-born inventor Nikola Tesla.

Tesla endured a frightening number of injustices during his lifetime. Let me tell you a story about Tesla, one of his inventions, and his extraordinary generosity, in hopes that he will not face the additional injustice of being forgotten by history.

Andy Warhol interviews Alfred Hitchcock
The meeting of these two icons of the 20th century is particularly significant, as each bridged high art and popular culture in unique intriguing ways. While on the surface it may seem like a odd pairing, they both share many things in common. Warhol and Hitchcock both started out as illustrators. Warhol had started his career working as a commercial illustrator, Hitchcock had started out creating illustrations for title cards in silent movies. Of course Andy and Alfred where also both film directors.

heatmap.js is a JavaScript library that can be used to generate web heatmaps with the html5canvas element based on your data. Heatmap instances contain a store in order to colorize the heatmap based on relative data, which means if you're adding only a single datapoint to the store it will be displayed as the hottest(red) spot, then adding another point with a higher count, it will dynamically recalculate
