He also doesn't really figure out that that's what's going on until King Rodney, somewhat dramatically, renounces the throne of Canada and manoeuvres John's father into happily agreeing to marry his spare heir off to a man. And then there's the part where John suddenly gets stationed on the most exciting base ever.

John hadn't really meant to schedule it. He'd just thought, back when he'd been fighting the crystal entity and Rodney had come sauntering down the gateroom stairs and into John's dream, ready to save the day, he'd just thought to himself, "If I still want to kiss him this much in a thousand days, I'm doing it."

Leaning back in his desk chair, John stared at the email.

"Phatic means it doesn't mean anything," Rodney says. "It's just something you do, like asking people how they are when you don't care, or telling people to look you up when they're in town."

When DADT is repealed John and Rodney get their wires crossed as to what the other wants. "I was thinking a...uh...demonstration of some kind might be in order."

In which John Sheppard has some Nox in his family tree and Scottish legends take a distinct turn towards the extraterrestrial.

The Council approves of sharing. It enriches their culture. The Council’s paparazzi have a background in science and they work on a whole new level. They make it easy for someone to share everything, including things the individual would rather remain private. It’s easier for them if they don’t ask permission. They didn’t ask John Sheppard’s. Besides, no-one’s meant to find out.

The one where Rodney intends to have an Order of Merlin for knowledge before he graduates, Ronon's got a secret and John's the coolest muggleborn in school.

Of course, John's personal favorite nights are the ones where Rodney gets into it, where he takes one song and drags it out for an hour or more. Just playing with the notes and rhythm, building patterns and shapes that John can almost see, making them something original and perfect.

John's life changes completely after he arrives in Atlantis: his higher-ups think he's been compromised, and he doesn't want to command, but has no choice.
