"RDF is structured data without investment in implementation-bound schemas. That's a mouthful. With RDF data, you decide how a data element "lives" inside a triple store (or the tripleverse) without tables, without the trappings of schema management in relational databases the need to form document definitions in markup like XML. Instead, data modelling itself is a first-class citizen of the data in RDF. Real-time metadata delivery makes publishers the proper source of data provenance. In the old book model, we relied on public subsidies in the form of libraries to create permanent metadata about books. Now that we rely on metadata to sell constantly, we need much more metadata up-front, and need it maintained throughout the lifecycle of a product. "
