Nice little video drawing comparisons between the punk movement in the 70 and the blogging, etc stuff happening now. While I think the video simplifies thing a bit I do agree with this. The DIY nature of online participation is what makes it so important. Anyone can play three chords. Anyone can do a zine. Anyone can start a blog.

A couple of years back Andrew Dubber wrote a series of blog posts distilling everything he knew about online music. He turned it into a book and now it's a serious of videos for their forthcoming <a href="http://www.apple.com/education/mobile-learning/">iTunes U</a> podcasts. The best way to download them is to subscribe to one of the RSS feeds on the right in iTunes and download them all.

Nice look at everyone's favourite cheap and simple video camera, the Flip, which occupies that annoying space where it's good but not quite good enough. The Flip is now a good couple of years old and there are a lot of other budget cameras on the market. Should investigate really.

60 minute documentary about social media affecting society. Notable because it looks at British examples, albeit mainly from a politics / democracy POV. The stuff about the football club is interesting - moving fans from supporting a club to participating in running a club by turning it into a game of sorts.

Video showing how when we add data and metadata to the Internet it effectively learns. Hard to boil down to a soundbite. Well worth a watch or two. Don't worry if you don't understand it all. It'll come in time.

Some films shot on a Nikon D90. What's really exciting about this is being able to shoot films on a relatively affordable piece of kit with a f1.8 lens. Depth-of-field-tastic!

The notion has occurred to me ever since I <a href="http://www.createdinbirmingham.com/2007/07/15/supersonic-collective-memory/">tracked</a> all the videos from Supersonic last year, but this is the first time I've seen someone attempt to completely reconstruct a concert using mobile phone footage uploaded to YouTube. 12 out of 25 songs is not a bad hit ratio.

By the way, if you want to get analytical this is <i>real<i> crowdsourcing and citizen journalism. Not asking people to get stuff or send stuff to you but harvesting what the crowd collectively produces as autonomous agents. So there.

is a cool looking iPhone racing game that you play by tipping the phone from side to side. But as someone who doesn't really play games (for the same reason I don't use heroin - I'd never get anything done) what interests me is the part where it can take the raw data from your game and create a video which is then posted automatically to YouTube. The potential application of that sort of process is mindboggling (GPS + Google Earth = video flythrough of your walk, for example.)

Nice little mashup that takes your Last.FM top artists and creates a personal MTV channel from YouTube. This is mine and it's oddly not that embarrassing.

Speechification for telly. Interesting that while they rip and mp3 the radio shows they're embedding the iPlayer here, meaning the older posts are full of "no longer available" screens and therefore useless. Be useful for current stuff though.

Some interesting figures from the iPlayer like certain programs getting 40% of their viewers through it. Not sure about the YouTube comparison - apples and oranges, surely?
