Death of the point and shoot camera
The cameraphone has taken over the point and shoot as the most popular camera on Flickr because it's always there in your pocket. I can attest to this. Now my iPhone takes good-enough photos I never use my lovely Lumix with the Leica lens. It's either the Nikon DSLR or the iPhone. I even took my holiday snaps with it last year.

Shooting with the Quad Camera
iPhone camera apps are like rabbits but this one takes the fact that, if we're honest, the iPhone camera is really shit and works with it, taking up to 8 shots in succession with gaps between 1/4 and 3 seconds. There's an animator to make stop-motion gifs from your shots which I haven't played with yet. Loving the lo-fi aesthetic. See also the obligatory Flickr group.

Some handy iPhone shortcuts
Some of these are common knowledge but there's a few good ones in here like typing welll to get we'll instead of well. via DF

Ocarina
"the first true musical instrument created for the iPhone", aparently, and even if it fails at that (which I don't think it does) it's a wonderful example of good thinkings. You blow into the microphone and the app translates the chhzzz from your breath into a nice tone. You then play this by touching the screen and moving the phone around. It costs 59p and is well worth it. Check the videos.

iPhone SSH review
I can't see me needing to SSH into my server from my phone in a hurry but the concept is intriguing.

PhotoCalc
Potentially useful iPhone app that helps you calculate exposure settings for your camera. Not the iPhone camera, naturally. A real camera. Looks pretty useful.

Real Racing
is a cool looking iPhone racing game that you play by tipping the phone from side to side. But as someone who doesn't really play games (for the same reason I don't use heroin - I'd never get anything done) what interests me is the part where it can take the raw data from your game and create a video which is then posted automatically to YouTube. The potential application of that sort of process is mindboggling (GPS + Google Earth = video flythrough of your walk, for example.)

Noise.io - iPhone synth
A touch-controlled noise-making app for the iPhone to be released on August 25th. I think I will be buying this. Oh god yes.
