The Digital Economy Bill: Be Careful What You Wish For
Lots of wiffle, waffle and bluster about the DE Bill. This is not wiffle nor waffle nor bluster.

Wikileaks are fundraising
This is the site which people can send leaked documents to without fear of lawyers serving them writs. They provide an invaluable service. Go throw them a fiver or something.

PoliticalHackUK: Unlawful acts?
On Tuesday, the City Council voted to move to a new system of governance. You can be forgiven for not realising that there was a change in the offing, but the governing party wanted to do it quietly and I don't think that they've done it properly.

Google targeting Local Government websites
Interesting move from Google. There's a push for councils to use Google adverts to "connect with your citizens at the exact moment when they are searching for services" and I'm not sure AdSense is of a quality I'd like to see on a government website, but they also list Google's free web optimization tools in a clear and understandable way, which is dead handy.

Us Now: A film about the power of mass collaboration, government and the internet
60 minute documentary about social media affecting society. Notable because it looks at British examples, albeit mainly from a politics / democracy POV. The stuff about the football club is interesting - moving fans from supporting a club to participating in running a club by turning it into a game of sorts.

10 local government social media myths
A handy bit of clarity on things like "it's too hard", "If we let people say anything, then they’ll say the worst thing" and "It’s a replacement for traditional consultation and engagement" via Andy Mabbett

Video websites 'must vet content'
Culture, Media and Sport select committee display a shocking ignorance of how online social spaces operate. You wouldn't vet how someone uses a park - you deal with problems as they occur.

Creative Britain: New Talents for the New Economy - The Digested Read
Another gem from Dave Harte. Contains such observations as "Kids are great and way more talented than grown-ups. But they don't get enough culture and are a bit fat."

Beyond the Creative Industries - The Digested Read
Dave Harte makes another impenetrable report slightly more penetrable. "This is all about counting and about how for all these years we've been doing the counting the wrong way."
