RSS and the Greatly Exaggerated Rumors of the Album’s Death « Bandcamp Blog
july 2009 by peteashton
Interesting observation on Bandcamp of how their artists are using "albums" as buckets into which songs go.

"What exactly constitutes an album is rapidly evolving... Rather than treating albums as immutable collections of tracks, lots of you treat albums as open containers. Containers for song-a-day/week projects, explorations of particular musical styles, or just general works-in-progress."Reminds me of Flickr photo sets which people either use as one-off collections of photos which will never be added to or themed collections which build over time. Bandcamp have added RSS feeds to their albums, as Flickr have to photo sets. Seems counter-intuitive at first but actually makes perfect sense. Albums are dynamic things.

Camera club | guardian.co.uk
june 2009 by peteashton
The Guardian is running an online photography club using their picture desk editors to help readers develop their skills. It integrates with a Flickr group. Worth investigating how they're running it and any issues that emerge.

Abandoned London
january 2009 by peteashton
I once walked across London (Waterloo to Camden) on Christmas morning and it really is as eerie as this. via Kottke

Tilt Shift Maker
january 2009 by peteashton
My attempts at buying dirt cheap medium format lenses on eBay that could be bodged into a tiltshift lens for my SLR came to nothing. I have no patience to do it in Photoshop. So this three step online tool will suffice marvelously should I feel the desire to turn my photos of cities into photos of toy cities. Abrinsky has more.

Ooh, this looks to be good. Heather is the community manager at Flickr and the work they do there in community management is fascinating. Here's a brief insight. October 24th, 2.30-3.30 pm. I can't make it myself but I highly recommend you do.

A rather snazzy browser plugin that lets you fly through search results for photos and videos. Also has a version for websites which I intend to have a play with. via Tom Horton.
