Eduardo says Mark's name at the altar, which would be okay except he's not getting married to Mark. Whoops.

“I’m sure we’ll be best friends in no time,” Mark says. “After all, who doesn’t like me?”

He smirks as the panic on his dad’s face ratchets up another level.

[Step-brothers/high school AU.]

The first time is a total accident, Eduardo swears; he's lying on Mark's bed, bored out of his fucking mind, because they agreed on dinner at eight, Mark, is that so hard? but Mark's having some sort of breakthrough or something, and mumbled, "Ten more minutes?" like, an hour ago, and Eduardo knows they're not leaving the dorm any time soon.

Mark raises Sean's accidental baby, OR a story about growing up, sad 70's rock songs, too much hair gel, "Maxwell's Silver Hammer", a baby with curly hair, a Geiger counter, a dog that isn't named Max, the Chicken Dance, Cheerios, pepper-spray, drugs, sex, and a stuffed chicken named Cluckerberg, nicknamed Cluck.

Well. Eduardo had said he needed to get Mark’s attention. Mark just hadn’t really thought that “get your attention” would mean “turn into a plant,” but Eduardo did tend to be really unnecessarily dramatic sometimes.

Also, and this is maybe where the week starts to become less normal, Mark finds out that his mom thought he and Eduardo were dating. Like, not currently, obviously, because that would make even less sense, but in the past, like, back when they were still friends, before he’d...before Eduardo had sued him for 600 million dollars and then never spoken to him again.

A few years after the depositions, Mark sends Eduardo an e-mail. Now Eduardo just needs to figure out what it says.

A lot of things are different from when they did this last. They’re more visible when they go out, now; and when Mark stops them in the middle of the sidewalk and goes up on his toes and kisses Eduardo until they’re panting for breath, he knows there will be pictures online, and his body thrums with the satisfaction of knowing that they will be seen everywhere.

Mark can’t read minds. There’s a fine line between predictive modeling and mind-reading, and he’s decidedly on the ‘predictive modeling’ side. If you like the Killers, you can probably add the Vines to your playlist. If you like Kurt Vonnegut and ‘1984,’ you’ll probably read ‘Neuromancer’ at some point. If you like talk radio, you are probably a douchebag.

Or, rather, he couldn’t read minds until now.

Mark wonders if Eduardo left Palo Alto with the overwhelming taste of his own weakness, or just that of Mark’s betrayal.

Mark can safely say he’s never thought about Eduardo that way. And he’s thought about Eduardo a lot.
