Truth be told, this is probably the most ‘normal’ thing he and the Doctor ever did together – sitting and tinkering with the TARDIS. Amy isn’t a morning person, and so Rory would almost always wake up first, and follow the noise to the console room. They used to sit here, he and the Doctor, underneath the TARDIS console. They used to talk, a little.

He watches her laugh, momentarily carefree and happy, and the lights of the TARDIS seem to grow warmer for a minute, like even dependable old Sexy is laughing right along with her.

There’s a noise down the corridor. It’s a sort of bounce-creak bounce-creak. It wakes Rory up.

Rory lifts Amy’s arm from around his waist, very carefully, and slips out of their new bed.

She just rolled her eyes at him. "He hasn't got a daemon, stupid. That's how you know he's an alien."

"It's as if you've never won a game of cards before."

"Of course I have, Pond." He grinned and waved his arms above his head. "This here is a victory dance." He bobbed his head like a cobra, and she slumped forward with a sigh, resting her forehead against the table.

Rufus remembers a childhood of McDonalds and flush toilets and cars, science classes, bullies, and the fact that he wasn't the town freak only because nobody could out-freak Amy, at least not in Leadworth. Leadworth was the town. His name was Rory Williams.

The men still call him Rory, an unofficial agnomen, a nickname. His father will be pleased when he hears Rufus is so popular.

He remembers two fathers, but the more vivid of them is Brutus Atius Africanus, the Consul. As a boy he ran barefoot on the tiled ground of his father's villa's courtyard, the only cool place in the summer, and stole sweet fruit right off the trees.

"I can give Amy twelve days in Mauritius with complimentary use of the hotel spa. You can give her..." Rory waves a hand around, taking in the TARDIS's control room, with its mish-mash of the utterly alien and the bizarrely familiar, lit up in warm oranges and cool electric blues. "This. All of time and space."

“Well,” he says, and lowers his voice so Rory won’t hear from where he’s chatting with a couple of farmers. “We may have just got married.”

Amy blinks, once, twice, and, as her arms begin to move to her waist, the Doctor winces because he knows what’s coming ---

“What do you mean we just got married?” she shouts, and, yeah, Rory definitely heard that time if the horrified look on his face is anything to go by.
