His first words on the Tardis were, “Does she run on gas?” The Tardis liked him immediately. She’s run more smoothly since Nate came on board. Truth be told, this is probably the most ‘normal’ thing he and the Doctor ever did together – sitting and tinkering with the TARDIS. Amy isn’t a morning person, and so Rory would almost always wake up first, and follow the noise to the console room. They used to sit here, he and the Doctor, underneath the TARDIS console. They used to talk, a little.

They've stolen her thief. They're all thieves, the lot of them, but he is hers and they have taken him, locked him up in his mind where she can't make him hear, and she will never forgive them for it.

He watches her laugh, momentarily carefree and happy, and the lights of the TARDIS seem to grow warmer for a minute, like even dependable old Sexy is laughing right along with her.

There’s a noise down the corridor. It’s a sort of bounce-creak bounce-creak. It wakes Rory up.

Rory lifts Amy’s arm from around his waist, very carefully, and slips out of their new bed.

Rufus remembers a childhood of McDonalds and flush toilets and cars, science classes, bullies, and the fact that he wasn't the town freak only because nobody could out-freak Amy, at least not in Leadworth. Leadworth was the town. His name was Rory Williams.

The men still call him Rory, an unofficial agnomen, a nickname. His father will be pleased when he hears Rufus is so popular.

He remembers two fathers, but the more vivid of them is Brutus Atius Africanus, the Consul. As a boy he ran barefoot on the tiled ground of his father's villa's courtyard, the only cool place in the summer, and stole sweet fruit right off the trees.

River Song is the most dangerous criminal in this universe, the next, and several other nearby ones besides.

"I can give Amy twelve days in Mauritius with complimentary use of the hotel spa. You can give her..." Rory waves a hand around, taking in the TARDIS's control room, with its mish-mash of the utterly alien and the bizarrely familiar, lit up in warm oranges and cool electric blues. "This. All of time and space."

“Well,” he says, and lowers his voice so Rory won’t hear from where he’s chatting with a couple of farmers. “We may have just got married.”

Amy blinks, once, twice, and, as her arms begin to move to her waist, the Doctor winces because he knows what’s coming ---

“What do you mean we just got married?” she shouts, and, yeah, Rory definitely heard that time if the horrified look on his face is anything to go by.

The best thing about being insane, Harold Saxon thinks, the absolute best thing, is never being surprised. Surprising, maybe, but never surprised. At least, he would have thought that if he weren't just a figment of the imagination, but that doesn't really matter; the Master prides himself on never allowing small things like insanity and unrealness to get in the way of a good idea.

A strange deck of Tarot cards, a dying TARDIS, and UNIT's invasion of a coastal Welsh village lead Torchwood to investigate the disappearance of the Doctor, with some help from Sarah Jane and Luke Smith. "It feels like the end of something," she tells the window before turning away. Tony is at that androgynous age in which his belly laughs could be any child, any child in the world. In the universe.

"Oh yes, please." The Doctor grinned. "I've got such an appetite." His eyes widened. "For pizza."

"Ma’am," he calls out. She turns around. She’s older than Scully, with a scowl on her narrow face. She’s muttering under her breath. "Ma’am, I need you to move away from the crash site. It could be dangerous."

"Should’ve known you’d be here, Mulder," she says, in an accent he immediately identifies as from London. "Great big trouble magnet, you are; just like him."

"How do you know my name?" he asks, the hairs on the back of his neck prickling.

The Doctor joins some Kings of Orient following a star, helps a quartet of sociologists, gets thrown in prison, meets shepherds (ditto: talking sheep), finds a baby in a stable, uses Christmas carols for nefarious ends, and learns The True Meaning Of Camel.

So here they are in a market under the glittering evening sky of Bergezet, the Doctor walking on ahead in an enthusiastic trench coat sweep and Martha trying to peel something that has at least a passing relation to an orange, when an alien in a corner stall foists a digital flyer into Martha's somewhat fruit-sticky hands.

"Doctor," Martha calls, "I think someone just gave me alien email spam."

It would not be strictly accurate to say it's an accident that they bump into each other. Accident implies, well, that Rose hadn't spent many fruitful hours on Google, clearing out her cache again and again so it isn't just one long line of donna noble, sarah jane smith, martha jones. It isn't stalking, she reasons. It's not like she's actually going to go to the hospital where Dr. Jones works, and when she does go, it's not like she's going to follow Martha around to get a sense of what exactly is so special here, and when she -- right, so maybe it is a little like stalking. She can't decide whether to blame the Doctor or Donna Noble.

It took her so long to fall asleep – strange room at an Inn for the night, since Pete said he couldn't get the zeppelin over till the next day. Strange body curled against hers – too warm, too still, but yet still him, and she wants this body and she totally doesn't, and in the end they just spoon and drift off in each others' arms. He sleeps. It's all wrong.

Faith stares. "You're kidding. You got a time machine?"

The Doctor leans against a coral strut and gives her a very serious look. "You'll never have been away. You can come back just a minute after you left."

"Well," says Faith. Her fingers itch and her spine tingles and goddamn, she needs a vacation. She can kick the Doctor's skinny ass if she needs to. Sometimes she hates how the world is so damn small. "What the hell," Faith says. "Why not."

The Doctor beams like the first sunrise after an apocalypse averted. "Welcome aboard, Faith."

Two names fit comfortably inside his head: Donna, Doctor. Both are useless; here he sits, a shadow-copy (the most anomalous bloke I've ever met) hiding in the depths of the TARDIS from his other self. He watches his hand, strangely disconnected, scrawling Gallifreyan words on post-its he found in a stationary cupboard: one word, another, names that haven't fit comfortably in his head for a millennium. How ridiculous. He's hours old.

Abby's past and present collide when she and a missing Admiral they're searching for turn out to have a mutual friend--the Doctor.

"When I was in the other world," she says instead, "when we were tracing timelines and measuring causality, we found all sorts of things - loops and eddies, the flotsam of time, everything that was converging on Donna. But in this universe, there was this - this mark, a stopper in events."

"Like a fixed point."

Rose nods. "Exactly like that."

Jack spreads his hands wide. "Guilty as charged."

Rose can feel the horror of it, knows in her guts that it's wrong, that this isn't what's ever supposed to happen. "I'm so sorry, I really am."

Being proved wrong -- and by such a silly argument, all pathos but still right -- rankles. Koschei grits his teeth. "What if it was small things? Not just preventing paradoxes, but setting little things to rights?"

" 'What if'," Theta echoes, the beginnings of a smile curling his lips. "All right then. We'll do an experiment, hmm? Forget the quantum applications. We'll set history to rights a theory at a time."

“It’s bigger on the inside, eh?” The Doctor said, cheerfully, as the TARDIS crackled to light and life. “Mmm,” Draco agreed, non-commitally. “Impressive. The Doctor manages to look wounded. 'I am perfectly capable of arriving precisely where I'd like to, thank you very much.'

Donna Noble rediscovers herself, Torchwood finds all sorts of useful technology, the Doctor and the Master just can't get rid of each other, the past doesn't stay where it should, and Time starts to heal.

Because, seriously, what kind of dumbo missed that? Not Donna Noble. Not anymore anyway.

"Do you want a spoiler?" she asks, lips whisper-light against his.

"I thought that was against the rules?"

"It is. I'm feeling naughty."

The Doctor catches her wrist and kisses it. "I like the sound of that."

She starts to wonder how that other Doctor would kiss, and then understands: he wouldn't. This is how he would, if only he could, and she's the luckiest girl in the world.

The first time she meets him, she's running for her life.

The Time Lords never had a word equivalent to the Earth's utilitarianism. The Doctor doesn't either. Instead he has words like doing the right thing and running away, and depending on context sometimes they mean the same thing too.

Martha rolls her eyes, because he may be old, older than she can imagine (or not, because he's never said), there are times when he reminds her of Leo when he was twelve and impatient, and she was fourteen and wise.
