Sunday morning and Donna Noble opened her front door armed with a hangover and a cup of coffee to find a small blonde woman wearing an astonished expression pointing a glowing, bleeping stick at Donna's chest.

“You're an impossible thing,” she breathed.

“Oh, bugger off.” Donna slammed the door in the woman's face.

"It's not the end of the world," he says softly, more softly than the other Doctor ever did. Rose rather appreciates the tone, despite the candor. "You know, we know a bit about that, right?" He pauses and his mouth presses against the back of Rose's head.

Out in the yard, her mum tackles dad and they roll about in the leaves, rakes forgotten.

"It feels like the end of something," she tells the window before turning away. Tony is at that androgynous age in which his belly laughs could be any child, any child in the world. In the universe.

"Ma’am," he calls out. She turns around. She’s older than Scully, with a scowl on her narrow face. She’s muttering under her breath. "Ma’am, I need you to move away from the crash site. It could be dangerous."

"Should’ve known you’d be here, Mulder," she says, in an accent he immediately identifies as from London. "Great big trouble magnet, you are; just like him."

"How do you know my name?" he asks, the hairs on the back of his neck prickling.
