Computers offer a faster way to cure humanity's ills | Technology | guardian.co.uk
"Although these stories are reports about medical research, they are really about computing – in the sense that neither would have been possible without the application of serious computer power to masses of data. In that way they reflect a new – but so far unacknowledged – reality; that in many important fields leading-edge scientific research cannot be done without access to vast computational and data-handling facilities, with sophisticated software for analysing huge data-sets."

Wheel of Stars
"A musical clock made of stars. To make this, I downloaded public data from Hipparcos, a satellite launched by the European Space Agency in 1989 that accurately measured over a hundred thousand stars. The data I downloaded contains position, parallax, magnitude, and color information, among other things. I used this information to plot the brightest stars, and cause them to revolve about Polaris (the North Star) very slowly, as the stars appear to do. Like the night sky, this is a sidereal time clock -- it takes nearly 24 hours for the stars to fully rotate."

Aleatoric music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aleatoric music (also aleatory music or chance music; from the Latin word alea, meaning "dice") is music in which some element of the composition is left to chance, and/or some primary element of a composed work's realization is left to the determination of its performer(s). The term is most often associated with procedures in which the chance element involves a relatively limited number of possibilities."

BENGE: Twenty Systems (Expanding Records) | themilkfactory
"With Twenty Systems, Edwards creates twenty tracks, one for each of the years between 1968 and 1987, and each built using just one synthesizer. The list of makes, Moog, ARP, Roland, Serge, Korg, Yamaha, Oberheim, and models used is likely to send shivers down the spines of many aficionados, and the accompanying liner notes provide much needed information on each machine."

Stephen Bayley's opinion on the battle for Chelsea Barracks | Art and design | The Observer
"The fabulous absurdity of the media "debate" between Prince Charles and Richard Rogers is that each is a historical relic. The prince is a throwback to the 18th century and beyond, the architect is a suntanned survivor of the 20th. We are now in the 21st, a century with priorities of its own. Charles's unreflective and ludicrous enthusiasm for anachronism in architecture has its equivalent in Rogers' dogmatic and doctrinaire insistence on aesthetic conflict with metal and glass."
