1:1 Architects Build Small Spaces | Victoria and Albert Museum
"The V&A will be staging a contemporary architecture exhibition in June 2010 exploring the power of small spaces. A number of international architects have been asked to design structures which explore notions of refuge and 'retreat'. These buildings which examine themes such as play, work, performance and study will be built at full-scale in various spaces within the V&A."

"A Treejack survey will show you the parts of your IA that work well, and the bits that need more work. Get answers to questions about which labels work best, whether a structure is too deep and where to put certain types of content. Think of it as analytics for a website you haven't built yet."

adaptive path » blog » Brandon Schauer » use of concept: the best proof of concept
"Over the past 2 months the city government, in cooperation with business groups and non-profits, has turned a corner of one of the busiest intersections in San Francisco into a public plaza. The 17th Street Plaza project took 72-hours to implement, and is carefully called a “reversible trial.” Like the phrase “reversible pilot”.

Skeuomorph - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
a term used in the history of architecture, design, and archaeology. It refers to a derivative object which retains ornamental design cues to structure that was necessary in the original. Skeuomorphs may be deliberately employed to make the new look comfortably old and familiar, such as copper cladding on zinc pennies or computer printed postage with circular town name and cancellation lines."

Stephen Bayley's opinion on the battle for Chelsea Barracks | Art and design | The Observer
"The fabulous absurdity of the media "debate" between Prince Charles and Richard Rogers is that each is a historical relic. The prince is a throwback to the 18th century and beyond, the architect is a suntanned survivor of the 20th. We are now in the 21st, a century with priorities of its own. Charles's unreflective and ludicrous enthusiasm for anachronism in architecture has its equivalent in Rogers' dogmatic and doctrinaire insistence on aesthetic conflict with metal and glass."

Woobius introduces the construction industry to 21st century collaboration
"You’d think that with the futuristic and gravity defying creations they spawn, architects would be leading the vanguard of efficient working practices. It turns out they’re still stuck in the 90s, where sharing files and collaborating with partners and clients is done via CD and bike messenger, or – shock! horror! – even printouts sent by post." I don't find that surprising in the least. Woobius looks interesting, though.

The dark side of Dubai - Johann Hari, Commentators - The Independent
"Once the manic burst of building has stopped and the whirlwind has slowed, the secrets of Dubai are slowly seeping out. This is a city built from nothing in just a few wild decades on credit and ecocide, suppression and slavery. Dubai is a living metal metaphor for the neo-liberal globalised world that may be crashing – at last – into history."
