Not a day goes by without another story on the rise of online retail at the expense of traditional bricks and mortar stores. A combination of the strength of the Australian dollar and the ease of online shopping, from a find, review, select and purchase perspective have both been major factors in the continued momentum of online commerce. In the past few days Harvey Norman has announced that like-for-like sales at its retail stores fell 6.3 per cent in the first half. Woolworths is looking to divest its Dick Smith chain and last year saw closures at Colorado, Angus & Robertson and Borders to name a few.
