Joe Belfiore shows off Windows Phone Mango (Video)
Impressive web rendering demo (2:00). Bing Vision (4:15) looks hot. Live tiles are a great idea (6:10). Social activity integration and threads (8:45) look interesting, but not something I need. Ten minute video.

Mimeo and the Kleptopus King
Old school (like Nintendo-era) iPhone game from Shaun Inman. Tentatively scheduled for holiday 2010 release. I'm not convinced touch is a superior input mechanism over the tradition directional pad plus buttons, but the game itself looks fantastic.

When The Browser Doesn't Cut it: Basecamp's Lack of Mobility
«But there is one problem. Basecamp is browser native. I want mobile native. And ReadWriteWeb's VP of Content Dev Marshall Kirkpatrick tweeted today that he wants a Basecamp AIR app. Either way, it's clear that browser-only doesn't cut it anymore for Basecamp.»

Collateral Damage
«Interestingly, this conclusion isn't based on any personal preference or subjective analysis. I'm not saying that Windows Mobile is bad, just that it is probably doomed. It's a simple matter of market economics.»

Verizon Droid Is The Real Deal
«The Droid poses a different and more significant challenge to the iPhone than any other phone to date. The Palm Pre could have been that challenger, but it lacked the Verizon network, and users were unimpressed with the hardware. According to people who’ve handled the device, the Droid is the most sophisticated mobile device to hit the market to date from a hardware standpoint.» # When my contract with AT&T is up in another 18 months, I should have a few great options. I could be swayed from the iPhone by the right combination of features.

Mobile Usability
"All of our new research findings support a single conclusion: designing for mobile is hard. Technical accessibility is very far from providing an acceptable user experience. It's not enough that your site will display on a phone. Even touch phones that offer "full-featured" browsers don't offer PC-level usability in terms of users' ability to actually get things done on a website."

Know Who’s Calling: Tactile Design
"I generally keep my phone on vibrate; it’s less intrusive that way. Given a name, it’s not difficult to deduce its basic constituent phonemes (every text-to-speech program does it). Here’s the thought, have the vibrator buzz out the phonemes of the caller’s name. The name Alexis, would be “br br brrr” and Jenny would be “Brr brr”, and Dan would be “bRrr. Imagine it as the sound of trying to say someone’s name without opening your mouth, complete with pitch and loudness modulation (which can be controlled with vibration speed and strength)."

All Phones Are (Or Will Be) Smartphones - So Now What?
"The emergence of mobile operating systems, the ability to install and run third-party apps, and the wide availability of multimedia features (camera phones, video phones, and MP3-playing phones abound) have all been game-changing developments in the mobile field, but they are quickly becoming commonplace."

Skype for iPhone: It's Real and It's Spectacular
"The bottom line is, other apps may get the job done, but due to bad interface design, a critical missing feature, or trying to do too much, are not a pleasure to use. This client actually is a pleasure."

ASP.NET and the Mobile Web
The mobile experience isn't the laptop experience on a smaller screen just like the web isn't dvds and newspapers on laptops and PCs. Get that straight because it's about to be very important.

ComScore: Mobile Internet Usage Doubled in 2008
"The number of people who accessed news and information sites from their mobile phones in the U.S. more than doubled from January 2008 to January 2009. ComScore estimates that about 63 million people accessed mobile news and information sites from their mobile devices in January 2009, and about a third of these did so on a daily basis. The mobile Internet is clearly becoming a mainstream phenomenon."
