The Cult of Personalities - Cognition: The blog of web design & development firm Happy Cog
It's important to have a basic understanding of psychology when you work with people. To some, that comes naturally from observing and interacting. To me, that means extra work and very deliberate conversations.

Terrific article, as always, by Rands. Understanding people is hard work.

Cultivate Teams, Not Ideas
All of Jeff's excellent quotes are from people who sell products. At Full Stop, we work with clients who in turn are responsible for generating their own profits, which means we must work all the harder to not only remember ourselves that execution is all that matters but to convince each and every client to adopt that mantra.

We Become What We Behold [ChangeOrder]
David adds another log to the living-in-the-digital-moment-rots-your-mind fire, not that he would say it like that (nor, really, would anyone else — it's quite a mouthful). I can't disagree, especially when Dosteovsky and McLuhan are referenced.

Local Bookstores, Social Hubs, and Mutualization
«Last month, the American Booksellers Association published an open letter to the Justice Department, asking Justice to investigate Wal-Mart, Target, and Amazon after they lowered prices of best-selling books to under $10. The threat, the ABA says, is dire: “If left unchecked, these predatory pricing policies will devastate not only the book industry, but our collective ability to maintain a society where the widest range of ideas are always made available to the public, and will allow the few remaining mega booksellers to raise prices to consumers unchecked.” Got that? Lower prices will lead to higher prices, and cheap books threaten to reduce the range of ideas in circulation.»

Football, dogfighting, and brain damage
«A long time ago, someone suggested that the [C.T.E. rate] in boxers was twenty per cent,” McKee told me. “I think it’s probably higher than that among boxers, and I also suspect that it’s going to end up being higher than that among football players as well.»
