VidPay: Dead Simple Sponsored Video Ad Platform
To appreciate my gushing enthusiasm over VidPay you must understand that one of the occupational hazards of writing for TechCrunch requires the deciphering of what startups actually do. Increasingly rare are startups like VidPay that offer straightforward value for its customers and have a CEO that knows how to intelligently communicate what the product actually does without overselling it or using tiring hyperbole.

The problem VidPay set out to solve is allowing small/mid-sized advertisers to promote their videos on sites such as Metacafe, Dailymotion and Vimeo. These sites usually don’t have dedicated sales teams to support such advertisers because they focus on larger, more budget-laden campaigns.

A Whole Lotta Nothing: This is how Social Media really works
So maybe instead of getting your company on twitter, paying marketers to mention you are on twitter, and paying people to blog about your company, forget all that and just make awesome stuff that gets people excited about your products, hire people that represent the company well, and when your stuff is so awesome that friends share it with other friends, you may not even need "social media marketing" after all.

GizmoStyle // We Love The Web : Linux enters the I’m A Mac/I’m A PC row with ‘We’re Linux’
We’ve all seen the various Mac v PC ads but no Linux ads as of yet. And why would we? - Linux does not have the bank balance to finance Hollywood style adverts - remember Microsofts Jerry Seinfeld ad campaign? $10 million for what? Well, that’s all about to change as Linux have announced five finalists who have made adverts for their ‘We’re Linux’ video campaign. I must admit, they probably aren’t TV ready…..yet. We’ll see what Linux decide to do when they announce the winner tomorrow (Wednesday evening Pacific Time). Here are the 5 videos:

Why Did Western Drs. Promote Tobacco While the Nazis Fought Cancer? | Health
Something is lost when people specialize. I like to see things like an amateur. The word amateur is literally “lover,” it’s from amore. Professionalism is often the death of intellectual inquiry. So I think there’s a kind of virtue of systematic amateurism that really needs to be rekindled. If you don’t love and hate and play and joke with your objects of study, then you’re really not treating them properly. I tell my students if you’re not angry and excited and enthralled by your topic, you should choose a different one.

TED: Seth Godin: Sliced bread and other marketing delights
In a world of too many options and too little time, our obvious choice is to ignore the ordinary stuff. Marketing guru Seth Godin spells out why, when it comes getting our attention, bad or bizarre ideas are more successful than boring ones.
