What's the best source for learning how to program iOS apps?
Lynda.com has a very comprehensive set of video lessons that hold your hand through the process. I'd check those out if you've never looked at Objective C code before. Alternatively you can grab free lessons from iTunes U. Off the top of my head I can't remember who put them out, but I think it might have been Princeton. Whatever it is, there is an Ivy League school that put videos of its iPhone development class online. Once you get the basics down, you can also get WWDC talks on iTunes (some are free, some are not) that are basically lessons from Apple devs themeselves.

Treat college as a 9-5 Job. Have breakfast at 8:30 and from 9-5 do nothing but school work. My roommate did this, and while we were up till all hours of the night doing homework, and studying he was out with the smart chicks, drinking and having fun.

Lifehacker - How Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak Gets Things Done - Steve Wozniak
april 2009 by mwfogleman
You'd better have the technology knowledge to do it. I really urge you not to think you can start a whole company and business with just ideas on paper, because you'll end up owning so few of those ideas. You have to create a working model, something that you can show people and demonstrate that it works, and then you can start building a future for it.

Ubuntu: A User's Look at Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex
february 2009 by mwfogleman
New to Ubuntu 8.10 is a nifty seamless encryption feature. It's always been possible to encrypt individual files/folders in Ubuntu but it involved creating a key pair and then individually encrypting files. To view or edit the file, it was necessary to decrypt it and then re-encrypt it again if changes were made. Messy.
The new feature creates an encrypted filestore, mounted in the Private folder in your /home directory. This is automatically locked and unlocked as you log in and out, so accessing it is seamless and transparent. Other users won't be able to access it, and it isn't possible to see its contents by booting into rescue mode.
To activate the feature, just type the following two commands:
sudo apt-get install ecryptfs-utils
ecryptfs-setup-private
Follow the prompts shown and then log out and back in again. Once the desktop reappears, you'll see a new Private directory in your /home folder, where you can save data, as with any other directory.

Mark: you'll obviously be dualbooting, but this should be helpful, even if it was written with Ubuntu 6.04, not the latest 8.10.
