Feynman's Nobel Ambition
It was effortless. It was easy to play with these things. It was like uncorking a bottle: Everything flowed out effortlessly. I almost tried to resist it! There was no importance to what I was doing, but ultimately there was. The diagrams and the whole business that I got the Nobel Prize for came from that piddling around with the wobbling plate.

Seth's Blog: The first thing you do when you sit down at the computer
The first thing you do when you sit down at the computer

Let me guess: check the incoming. Check email or traffic stats or messages from your boss. Check the tweets you follow or the FB status of friends.

You've just surrendered not only a block of time but your freshest, best chance to start something new.

If you're a tech company or a marketer, your goal is to be the first thing people do when they start their day. If you're an artist, a leader or someone seeking to make a difference, the first thing you do should be to lay tracks to accomplish your goals, not to hear how others have reacted/responded/insisted to what happened yesterday.

How to Become More Successful
Objectively speaking, successful people flock together. You really don’t see highly successful people all by themselves, surrounded by those who have a negative attitude towards success. The movers and shakers in any field tend to be friends and often hang out together.

What if our tech is good enough? | News | TechRadar UK
The problem of 'good enough' is a huge headache for the tech industry. When your computer isn't good enough – when a slow processor, meagre memory and tiny hard disk struggle with even everyday tasks – you'll buy a better model as soon as it becomes available.

Now, though, the weakest link isn't your PC: it's you.

Will a 200-core processor make you type an email more quickly, make you work more productively or make your Facebook status updates any more amusing?

Like Frankenstein, the tech industry is creating strange hybrids by cobbling together whatever is to hand – and just like Frankenstein, its ultimate aim is to find a way to live forever.

The Joy of Solving Problems
Let me offer you a different way of thinking about problems that’s a lot more empowering and a lot less whiny.

Problems do not exist to beat you down. They exist to help you grow stronger. Problems are like the dumbbells at the gym. If you attempt to lift them, you may feel tired in the short run, but you’ll grow stronger in the long run.

When you think about the various problems and challenges you’re facing in life, you may be tempted to assume that the goal is to reach the solution state — to get past the problem. But that’s a very narrow and largely disempowering perspective. That’s like saying that the point of going to the gym is to reach the end of your workout.

A more productive perspective is to consider that the activity of solving problems is what really matters. It’s the activity, not the final solution state, that helps you grow.

How to Craft Your Personal Business Model - FreelanceSwitch - The Freelance Blog
Making these decisions can be overwhelming–even if you’re a veteran. This past January, for the second time in my career, I abandoned a comfy full-time gig and jumped whole hog into a completely open calendar. Coming up on my last day as an employee, I couldn’t wait to be free again. I felt like queen of the world: I had potential clients offering me paid work, volunteer opportunities to dive into, a long list of new skills and technologies I couldn’t wait to teach myself, and a calendar full of free time. It felt great.
Then I spent my first day as a freelancer wrapped in a blanket, wide-eyed and paralyzed, wondering what in the world I’d gotten myself into. That didn’t feel great.
It was time to do some soul-searching. I picked up a notebook and pen and got to teasing out a bigger vision that would help me make sense of the smaller decisions. I was crafting my personal business model.
