Stanford White - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
may 2010 by mtowber
Stanford White (November 9, 1853 – June 25, 1906) was an American architect and partner in the architectural firm of McKim, Mead, and White, the frontrunner among Beaux-Arts firms. He designed a long series of houses for the rich and the very rich, and various public, institutional, and religious buildings, some of which can be found to this day in places like Sea Gate, Brooklyn. His design principles embodied the "American Renaissance". In 1906, White was murdered by millionaire Harry Kendall Thaw, leading to a widely reported trial.

Susan Sontag: Notes On "Camp"
october 2009 by mtowber
'Many things in the world have not been named; and many things, even if they have been named, have never been described. One of these is the sensibility -- unmistakably modern, a variant of sophistication but hardly identical with it -- that goes by the cult name of "Camp."'

the Graveyard. A Tale of Tales.
june 2009 by mtowber
"The Graveyard is a very short computer game designed by Auriea Harvey and Michaël Samyn. You play an old lady who visits a graveyard. You walk around, sit on a bench and listen to a song. It's more like an explorable painting than an actual game. An experiment with realtime poetry, with storytelling without words."

may 2009 by mtowber
"Awazu’s early works are exemplified by his use of brush and ink, highly signature display renderings of Japanese characters, and the mixed use of photography and hand-drawn elements. Utilizing abstraction, a polychrome palette, and a wide variety of techniques, Awazu created a voluminous body of work that spans over 40 years of constant visual activity."

comics grammar & tradition
february 2009 by mtowber
" Comic book lettering has some grammatical and aesthetic traditions that are quite unique. What follows is a list that every letterer eventually commits to his/her own mental reference file. The majority of these points are established tradition, sprinkled with modern trends and a bit of my own opinion having lettered professionally for a few years now."
