GlimmerBlocker
"The problem with other ad-blockers for Safari is that they are implemented as awful hacks: as an InputManager and/or ApplicationEnhancer. GlimmerBlocker is implemented as an http proxy, so the stability of Safari isn't compromised because it doesn't use any hacks. It is even compatible with all other browsers and other native Mac OS X applications which uses http, e.g. NetNewsWire."

Seth's Blog: Why downloading Firefox is like getting into college
Interesting, true, but I also know plenty of decidedly non-geeky, non-web savvy types who use Firefox, without "customising" their computer in any other way. i.e. (pun intended) it's not always a gateway drug.
