gzipWTF is the easiest f***ing way to check for gzip and more. The purpose of this site is to aide web designers & developers in speeding up sites by pinpointing which resources are not being gzipped by the server, which resources are slow and which resources are causing 404s. Our mission is to increase awareness of site speed as an important part of the web's future. George Washington approves.

Cinderella is a fully managed development environment for open source hacking on Mac OSX. It's powered by homebrew and chef. You only need Xcode to get started.
Cinderella builds everything up in ~/Developer. It won't stomp on any of your current installations so you don't have to commit your entire machine immediately. It's simple to rollback if you really want to.

simple algorithms
april 2011 by mlednor
This is a place to find information about some of the more fundamental algorithms used in computer science. This information is widely available on the net, but hopefully the way it's presented and discussed here will resonate with you.
Most of these are things you wouldn't need to write yourself. Modern libraries and languages tend to have quality implementations for all of this. Nonetheless, I truly believe that understanding how things work is key to improving how we work.

Node Nerd - Page 1 of 9
april 2011 by mlednor
Vogue is a great idea for a little Node.js app that removes one of the friction points in rapid web design with CSS: saving changes in an editor, then reloading the page in each of the browsers that you have to support. Vogue can monitor your CSS files and communicate with all open browsers via Socket.IO and tell them to re-load that CSS file, making updates happen almost immediately and always passively.

gerrit - Project Hosting on Google Code
march 2010 by mlednor
Gerrit is a web based code review system, facilitating online code reviews for projects using the Git version control system.
Gerrit makes reviews easier by showing changes in a side-by-side display, and allowing inline comments to be added by any reviewer.
Gerrit simplifies Git based project maintainership by permitting any authorized user to submit changes to the master Git repository, rather than requiring all approved changes to be merged in by hand by the project maintainer. This functionality enables a more centralized usage of Git.
