The Future Perfect
The Future Perfect was born from the desire to showcase the newest and best in decorative arts and design. At once it is a store, shop, gallery and mecca, mixing talent from New York and the world. Founder David Alhadeff recognized that too much design seen in magazines or boutique windows relied on cleverness but, in the end, had no lasting or intrinsic beauty. In Brooklyn, things were different. Its designers were on to something fundamental and exquisite. In September of 2003, the store opened, celebrating local products and furniture with a party. Alhadeff's Dad flirted with Williamsburg girls and made hot dogs while his Mom worked the register and made the sales. Soon after, The Future Perfect was alive and stocking up on designs and names from all over.

Andrew Shea
I am a multidisciplinary graphic designer and writer living in New York City. My projects have involved designing identities, motion graphics, web sites, exhibition graphics, and publications, along with consulting as a strategist and art director. I look for research-oriented projects that challenge my thinking and form-making skills, but I'm especially interested in collaborating with non-profits and civic organizations that need help to address complex social problems.

2 × 4
Founded in 1994 by Michael Rock, Susan Sellers and Georgianna Stout, 2x4 is headquartered in New York City. The focus of our work is brand strategy: we articulate core values and develop the creative ideas that express them. Both highly rational and wildly visual, our work spans strategy and design from culture to commerce. For more than 15 years we have been working to redefine the role of the designer in translating business strategy into tangible and designed experiences. We work with some of the most design-savvy clients worldwide to develop strategy, design systems, content and projects that draw on both modernist traditions and the exuberance of contemporary life.

School of Visual Arts - MFA in Design Criticism
This innovative two-year program trains students to research, analyze, and evaluate design and its social and environmental implications.

The School of Visual Arts MFA in Design Criticism seeks to cultivate design criticism as a discipline and contribute to public discourse with new writing and thinking that is imaginative, historically informed and socially accountable. Drawing on the broadest possible definition of design, the curriculum includes graphic, Web and product design, as well as fashion, urban planning and network systems. The course of study couples a theoretical framework with significant opportunities for practical experience. In providing the tools for researching, analyzing, evaluating and chronicling all aspects of design, students will prepare for careers as design critics, journalists, editors, curators, educators and design managers.
