Snipreel Clips YouTube Videos So You Can Share the Best Parts
december 2011 by minorjive
If you've ever wanted to share the best parts of a YouTube video and not the whole thing, Snipreel allows you take small snippets of a video and share your own highlight reel.
All you need to do is paste in the URL of the video you want to edit, then drag the sections you want to snip out. It's currently limited to just 60 seconds and you can't embed your edited video, but if you're looking for a quick means to showcase your favorite parts of a presentation or video, it does its job.

Works great at getting HTML5 goodness into YouTube.
You can set the maximum resolution of the video to use (360 or 720p).
Normal fullscreen mode does not currently work. This has to do with Chrome's native video player not having the ability, not the extension itself. A workaround is to right-click on the video and "open video in new tab", which will open a tab with just the video at full resolution. If you use 720p that should be pretty big.
UPDATE: I wish this worked better. Porting the Safari extension involved very few changes. Any problems with getting this to work have to do with Chrome's native video player, and how YouTube reacts to Chrome browsers vs Safari. I'll see what I can do to improve things. Basically: one video will work, and another will not. I think it has to do with if there's a WebM (vs H.264) version. This does still work on many videos. But it's not quite there. Keep checking.

With quite a few viral hits under my belt I’ve had plenty of time to experiment. When I find something that works I add it to a checklist. Now when I’m producing new Youtube content each clip has to go through a 200+ item checklist to make sure it is able to get the highest number of views possible. Here are 10 of my favorite Youtube tips from my checklist:
