A History of Default WordPress Themes
WordPress has come a long way since its first release back in May 2003, from just a personal publishing platform to the world’s most used Content Management System. WordPress is a wonderful example of open source development model and how influential this development model could be. During all this time, WordPress went through great changes and to showcase new features, the team behind WordPress occasionally released new default themes. This is the default layout for your blog or website when you first run a default WordPress installation.

In this post we will look at these themes and see how far WordPress has come in terms of features, extendibility, easiness, popularity and awesomeness.

Timthumb (thumb.php) Security Flaw | WooThemes
This morning we were made aware of a security flaw within the Timthumb image resizing script, which is utilized in our themes for dynamic image resizing. It is also widely used in other WordPress themes and plugins.

As a result of this security flaw, the author of TimThumb and the author of WordThumb have worked together to release TimThumb v2 which fixes these security issues.

We’d highly recommend that you update your WooFramework like described below.

One of the things that I love to do most with WordPress is to show absolute beginners how to use it. Recently I taught a group of writers how to get to grips with it. The aim was for them all to produce their own author’s portfolios. They ranged in age from around 25 – 60 so it was a pretty diverse group. Their technical ability ranged from someone who had been blogging for years to people who were horrified by the idea of having a blog. During a discussion of Twitter it was mentioned by a few that Twitter is only used by people who wanted to talk about what they had for breakfast. That should give you an idea of what I was up against!

WordPress and Drupal: Convergence?
I’ll admit that I’m still not terribly familiar with actually using Drupal, though I did finally install D7-alpha-6 on my laptop recently. But I have had the opportunity to observe its community some — online, in person, and through podcasts — and I’ve learned a little bit about how they manage the release of a new version. And so I have a pretty good perspective on comparing some traits the WordPress and Drupal communities. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: there is a lot we can learn from each other, and I think that it is a win-win for the community in doing so.

Collapsable, Foldable, Expandable Page Menus for Wordpress: The Fold Page List Plugin
WordPress 1.5 introduced the ability to maintain pages through the WP database, and to output a list of pages as a navigational list using the wp_list_pages template tag. While useful, certain aspects of use of this tag fall short of being able to selectively expand/fold/collapse sub layers of a page hierarchy, with the result that page lists can become long, unwieldy and often difficult or confusing to use.
Fold Page List has been developed to provide some control on how Wordpress displays the hierarchy of its page menu.

The nice thing about is, it doesn't modify the current uploads at all, doesn't store files in a different place, so if you want to stop using it, all links to files stay the same, so you don't need to redo anything.
