ImageOptim — make websites and apps load faster (Mac app)
ImageOptim optimizes images — so they take up less disk space and load faster — by finding best compression parameters and by removing unnecessary comments and color profiles. It handles PNG, JPEG and GIF animations.

ImageOptim seamlessly integrates various optimisation tools: PNGOUT, AdvPNG, Pngcrush, extended OptiPNG, JpegOptim, jpegrescan, jpegtran, and Gifsicle.

It's excellent for publishing images on the web (easily shrinks images “Saved for Web” in Photoshop) and also useful for making Mac and iPhone/iPad applications smaller (see Xcode warning).

Change the Default Format and Save Location for Screenshots on a Mac
Macs have a pretty good built-in screenshot utility, but it doesn't come packed with a lot of options. One of the problems is the fact you can't easily change the file type or save location of those screenshots. However, software blog Addictive Tips shows how to change both with a simple Terminal command.

Enable Safari’s Hidden Debug Menu
Safari has a hidden “Debug” menu that offers some additional features for debugging the browser, including stress and load tests, sampling, javascript error logging, the ability to intentionally crash a page, and more. Intended for Safari developers, the Debug menu is different from the Developer menu, which is geared more at web developers, although there are a few options in the Debug menu that general web developers would find useful as well, notably advanced cache choices and CSS animation controls. If this sounds confusing, just enable both of them and poke around and you’ll quickly see the differences.

AppZapper - The uninstaller Apple forgot.
Everybody loves the drag and drop nature of OS X. Drag an app into your applications folder, and it's installed. You'd think it would be that easy to delete an app — just a matter of dragging it to the trash. But it's not. Apps install support files on your computer that generate clutter. Introducing AppZapper. Simply drag one or more apps onto AppZapper. Then, watch as it finds the extra files and lets you delete them with one click.

Sparrow Is Like Tweetie For Mac Plus Gmail. It’s Beautiful, But A Bit Slow
For the longest time, all I’ve wanted is a solid native Mac client for Gmail that supports starring of messages. Sure, there have been some out there, but they’ve all been lacking. Today, I may have finally found a good one.

Sparrow is a super-simple Mac client for Gmail. If you’ve used Tweetie for Mac (which is now owned by Twitter, but development is more or less frozen), you’ll feel right at home here. On the right hand toolbar you’ll find a big icon for you account (again, just like Tweetie), your inbox, your starred items, your replies, your drafts, and your trash. Along the top of the window, you’ll see an option to compose, reply to, archive, or delete. Naturally, there is also a search bar as well.

JSTN - Nerd Patrol
I installed Snow Leopard over the weekend and decided afterwards to reset my Time Machine backup, which I was surprised to find went back more than a year and had grown to 1.5TB. If you ever find yourself in this position, do everything you can to just reformat the whole disk. Because I share my Time Machine drive with other stuff I tried to just delete the “Backups.backupdb” folder normally, but emptying the trash wound up taking two full days. Untold millions of files! While I was waiting I figured out a cool command line trick, which I share with you here so we can both avoid repeating my fate. All on one line, substituting your own variables:
