Dreamhost.com: SSH Tunneling
january 2012 by mikael
This is a great temporary solution if you need to view something your ISP has blocked for unknown reasons. It should be considered a temporary solution, as it will definitely use bandwidth on your account. When you are on a shared server, it's nice not to abuse the system.

Macosxhints.com: Use a specific proxy connection with Chrome
february 2010 by mikael
Extrapolating from a published hint for Windows, I found that launching Chrome from the command line while passing it --proxy-server=host#:port# works. There is nothing I could find in Chrome's help pages, or on the web, that addresses this issue, so it may be useful. In Terminal, the final command looks like this: open -a /Applications/Google Chrome.app --args --proxy-server=host#:port#. Replace host# and port# with the host and port numbers that you need to use.

Addons.mozilla.org: Private Browsing Window
february 2010 by mikael
The user can have private and normal browsing windows simultaneously. This can be used for things other than simply secure browsing, too. You could, for instance, log into two Gmail accounts simultaneously, or test a web app using two different accounts in one browser. Much like Multifox.

GoogleSharing — A Special Kind Of Proxy
february 2010 by mikael
GoogleSharing is a special kind of anonymizing proxy service, designed for a very specific threat. It ultimately aims to provide a level of anonymity that will prevent google from tracking your searches, movements, and what websites you visit. GoogleSharing is not a full proxy service designed to anonymize all your traffic, but rather something designed exclusively for your communication with Google. Our system is totally transparent, with no special "alternative" websites to visit. Your normal work flow should be exactly the same.

httpTorrents
november 2009 by mikael
The age of free information is at hand! And it is very annoying that even if you have a broadband you still have some downloading problems with torrents. Sometimes you get blocked by the firewall, sometimes you just can’t get the appropriate downloading speed, sometimes you need a rating to download the file and the most annoying thing is when the seeder leaves you with a 95.00% completed file. This turns the promising world of file exchange into a nightmare, but httpTorrents has a solution. We will turn the torrent file that you need into an easy downloadable http-link.

Haystack: Good Luck Finding That Needle
july 2009 by mikael
In the upcoming days, Daniel Colascione and I will release a new program to provide unfiltered internet access to the people of Iran. A software package for Windows, Mac and Unix systems, called Haystack, will specifically target the Iranian government’s web filtering mechanisms.
Similar to Freegate, the program directed against China’s “great firewall,” once installed Haystack will provide completely uncensored access to the internet in Iran while simultaneously protecting the user’s identity. No more Facebook blocks, no more government warning pages when you try to load Twitter, just unfiltered Internet.
The network will be supported by donated high-quality servers outside of Iran. We will be able to provide an individual user with unfettered internet access that costs the donor $0.015 to $0.0375 per month.

GlimmerBlocker
february 2009 by mikael
The problem with other ad-blockers for Safari is that they are implemented as awful hacks: as an InputManager and/or ApplicationEnhancer. This compromises the stability of Safari and very often create problems when Apple releases a new version of Safari. GlimmerBlocker is implemented as an http proxy, so the stability of Safari isn't compromised because it doesn't use any hacks. It is even compatible with all other browsers. You'll always be able to upgrade Safari without breaking GlimmerBlocker (or waiting for a new release); and you'll be able to upgrade GlimmerBlocker without upgrading Safari. This makes it much easier to use the beta versions of Safari and especially the nightly builds of WebKit.

Protect Your Privacy from Google

Google places a cookie on every user's computer, timed to expire in 2038. The solution is to clear all long-lasting cookies, set your browser to not keep cookies between restarts, and divert all google requests out through an anonymous proxy.
