BetterZip Quick Look Generator | MacItBetter
may 2010 by michaelfox
Don't you wish Leopard's Quick Look would let you inspect the contents of compressed archives? Well, I do, so I took a little code from BetterZip, a template from Apple's Xcode, added a little code here and there, and after simmering this soup for three days the BetterZip Quick Look Generator is ready for a public tasting. Hot!
The currently supported archive formats are: ZIP, TAR, GZip, BZip2, ARJ, LZH, ISO, CHM, CAB, CPIO, RAR, 7-Zip, DEB, RPM, StuffIt's SIT, DiskDoubler, BinHex, and MacBinary.

Bittorrent Quick Look Generator
may 2010 by michaelfox
For Mac OSX 10.5+ only, this Quick Look generator displays the contents of a metainfo “.torrent” file. Useful if you ever have to sort through torrent files that are named by 10 year old children, but don’t feel like firing up your client just to see what’s in it.

A QuickLook plugin for CSV files
Quick look CSV files for Mac OS X 10.5 and newer. Supports files separated by comma (","), tabs (" ") and pipes ("|").
In order to use this Plugin, go to the Downloads page and download the file QuickLookCSV.dmg; double click that, in there you will find the actual Plugin named QuickLookCSV.qlgenerator.
Place the Plugin into ~/Library/QuickLook/ to install it for yourself only, or into (Macintosh HD)/Library/QuickLook/ to install it for all users of your Mac. If the QuickLook-folder does not exist, simply create it manually.
The plugin will generate Icons for csv (comma separated) and tsv (tab separated) files and show a preview, along with some information (like num rows/columns).
OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
A new version complied in 32 and 64 bit plus supporting Snow Leopard's new "public.comma-separated-values-text" UTI has been included since Version 0.3.1.

How do you use Unison? - Ars Technica OpenForum
may 2010 by michaelfox
Alright, I have finally gotten Unison set up to my liking on the Mac. Getting this syncing stuff right between my laptop and my desktop has been incredibly involved for me, but the alternatives all sucked worse (manual copying over? please).
Now, I've got it syncing pretty much everything that I want it to sync: FireFox bookmarks, extensions, & history; Address Book, Mail downloads; preferences for my favorite apps, Hazel rules, documents, and most of my bash profile. I'll share what I've done and some precious bits that I've learned in the process, and maybe others who have tamed the beast can chime in.
