I'm trying to amass a list of programming books with opensource licenses, like Creative Commons, GPL, etc. The books can be about a particular programming language or about computers in general.

A set of 120 simple icons, in 2 resolutions: 68×68 & 48×48px. In the zip file you will also find the AI & EPS files so you can either grab and freely use various elements or crop them for your resolution.

A collection of over a 100 letter pressed icons, in various letter pressed styles exclusive to Creative Nerds readers. The icons include three PSD files which are full of icons which you can drag and drop into your designs.

The icons in the preview to the left have effects such as gradients on them to reflect how they might look on an iPhone, but the downloaded icons have one colour with alpha, as recommended by Apple.

Everyone love free fonts. If you want to be a bit different, you can use these creative fonts to make sure that your designs will stand out.

Sometimes you don’t need to build interactive wireframes, or may not feel all that comfortable in Visio or OmniGraffle. I know here are times I just want to open up Photoshop and start laying things out.

This web UI template kit is made completley with shape objects and in some cases converted into SmartObjects. So they’re totally scalable. There are no usage restrictions but if you find them helpful give us a shout. We love hearing from you!

Sometimes you have a nice concept for a design in your mind, but you don’t know where to start; or sometimes you are just not aware of the right size for the design to implement. That’s where templates come handy. I have collected some very useful templates with proper guidelines, sizes and resolutions for design projects like business cards, letterheads, vinyl designs, brochures etc. I believe that these will prove to be a great time-saver for many of you guys. Most of these are in PSD or AI format, and are easily editable. Hope you find them useful.

If you use any of the big three online music stores (iTunes, Amazon, and eMusic), you may be aware that each of them has a section where they give away free music.

You may not be aware that that is the tip of the iceberg.

I download approximately 11,000 songs per year for free without infringing any copyrights (“pirating” music, as the RIAA would call it). I list each of these sources as free and legal on one or more of these grounds:

1. They explicitly say that the songs they give away or link to are free and legal. (Example: Largehearted Boy.)
2. They link directly to artist, label, promotion-company, or music-store websites (so you're really getting the MP3 directly from a person or company who certainly is authorized to give it away). (Example: Largehearted Boy.)
3. They are a music distribution service where artists and labels upload the music and set the price themselves. (Examples: Amie Street, Bandcamp, SoundCloud.)
4. They're high-enough profile that they would have gotten in legal and/or reputation trouble by now if they didn't have permission to give away some of the songs they give away, or if they didn't have permission to do so for free. (Examples: Pitchfork, Spinner.)

There are some sources that I know about but don't use for one reason or another. I have created a separate section for these below.

Many sources, and seemingly free music in general, skew towards indie rock. I like finding sources that don't; I would like to have more variety in my sources, as I have eclectic tastes.
