Includes support for the following sites/players (and more!):

YouTube, eHow, Brightcove (used by many sites like Channel 4, Daily Telegraph ...), BBC (news, etc), Metacafe, 5min, Google, fliqz, nicovideo, vimeo, Blip, Break, Collegehumor, Muzu, Sevenload, Megavideo, Wat.tv.

How to find rtmp:// stream URL: Software to sniff, snoop RTMP links - Audio/video stream recording forums
When it comes to downloading flash streams from the internet, Wireshark can be used to sniff out the values you need.

Let’s take this site for example: http://videolectures.net/

Start a Wireshark capture session before clicking on a video on the site to play it. Let WireShark grab all the information exchanged between your PC and the remote flash server and you can stop the capture once the video begins to play, we are only interested in what goes on during the connection handshake. I will use this video as an example: http://videolectures.net/ff06_chomsky_szmp/ [update Jun-2008: looks like they changed this particular video to Windows media instead of Flash, so try other videos or other sites]

In WireShark you can filter for protocol “rtmpt” and the first few entries would be handshake or “invoke” operations. Examining the “Handshake part 3″ we can easily get the value of the required “app” property. Below we can see it is “video/2006/other/ff06/chomsky_noam”:

BetterZip Quick Look Generator | MacItBetter
Don't you wish Leopard's Quick Look would let you inspect the contents of compressed archives? Well, I do, so I took a little code from BetterZip, a template from Apple's Xcode, added a little code here and there, and after simmering this soup for three days the BetterZip Quick Look Generator is ready for a public tasting. Hot!

The currently supported archive formats are: ZIP, TAR, GZip, BZip2, ARJ, LZH, ISO, CHM, CAB, CPIO, RAR, 7-Zip, DEB, RPM, StuffIt's SIT, DiskDoubler, BinHex, and MacBinary.

Ada 95: Contents
This book, originally published by Prentice Hall in 1996, was taken out of print in 2001 and the rights to the book were subsequently returned to me by Pearson (the successor company to Prentice Hall). I have decided to make it available online in HTML format, and at the same time I have corrected several errata which were present in the printed editions of the book. It’s perfectly possible that I might have missed some, or even introduced some brand-new ones, as part of the process of transforming the text into HTML. If you spot any mistakes, please let me know so I can correct the master copy, which can be found at http://www.it.bton.ac.uk/staff/je/adacraft/.

Downloadable copies are available as http://www.it.bton.ac.uk/staff/je/adacraft/bookhtml.zip (in zip format for Windows systems) or as http://www.it.bton.ac.uk/staff/je/adacraft/bookhtml.tar.gz (a gzipped tarball for Unix systems). Each distribution also includes the complete set of examples from the book, both for Windows (adacraft.zip) and for Unix (adacraft.tar.gz).

Programming Mac OS X with Cocoa for beginners - Wikibooks, collection of open-content textbooks
This wikibook aims to provide beginners with an introduction to programming Mac OS X with Cocoa, using Xcode, the free developer tools provided with the operating system. Some knowledge of another programming language, preferably C, is assumed. The main guide is aimed at users of Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4, but programming techniques that can only be used with 10.4 are avoided until the end.

In general, this text is written to be followed in order from start to finish. As each topic develops, it builds on the code written previously to add complexity and functionality.

The Cathedral and the Bazaar
I anatomize a successful open-source project, fetchmail, that was run as a deliberate test of the surprising theories about software engineering suggested by the history of Linux. I discuss these theories in terms of two fundamentally different development styles, the ``cathedral'' model of most of the commercial world versus the ``bazaar'' model of the Linux world. I show that these models derive from opposing assumptions about the nature of the software-debugging task. I then make a sustained argument from the Linux experience for the proposition that ``Given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow'', suggest productive analogies with other self-correcting systems of selfish agents, and conclude with some exploration of the implications of this insight for the future of software.

Eloquent JavaScript -- interactive tutorial
Eloquent JavaScript
An opinionated guide to programming
by Marijn Haverbeke

Eloquent JavaScript is a digital book providing a comprehensive introduction (tutorial) to the JavaScript programming language. Apart from a bookful of text, it contains plenty of example programs, and an environment to try them out and play with them.

The book is aimed at the beginning programmer ― people with prior programming experience might also get something out of it, but they should not read chapters 2 to 5 too closely, because most of the concepts discussed there will probably be nothing new to them. Do make sure you read the end of the first chapter, which has some essential information about the book itself.

The book is freely available, and may be used (as a whole or in parts) in any way you see fit, as long as I am credited as the original author.

A copy of the book for off-line reading can be downloaded as a zip file, and a more easily printable version can be found here.

I think Vimeo has the most polished video sharing site without much of the drivel found at other sites. And yes, I know that it is possible to make a video available for download. Ethical discussions aside, here’s how I saved this video for offline viewing. Of course, I wouldn’t sell it or make a profit in any way, I simply wanted to view it offline.

Sources of free music
If you use any of the big three online music stores (iTunes, Amazon, and eMusic), you may be aware that each of them has a section where they give away free music.

You may not be aware that that is the tip of the iceberg.

I download approximately 11,000 songs per year for free without infringing any copyrights (“pirating” music, as the RIAA would call it). I list each of these sources as free and legal on one or more of these grounds:

1. They explicitly say that the songs they give away or link to are free and legal. (Example: Largehearted Boy.)
2. They link directly to artist, label, promotion-company, or music-store websites (so you're really getting the MP3 directly from a person or company who certainly is authorized to give it away). (Example: Largehearted Boy.)
3. They are a music distribution service where artists and labels upload the music and set the price themselves. (Examples: Amie Street, Bandcamp, SoundCloud.)
4. They're high-enough profile that they would have gotten in legal and/or reputation trouble by now if they didn't have permission to give away some of the songs they give away, or if they didn't have permission to do so for free. (Examples: Pitchfork, Spinner.)

There are some sources that I know about but don't use for one reason or another. I have created a separate section for these below.

Many sources, and seemingly free music in general, skew towards indie rock. I like finding sources that don't; I would like to have more variety in my sources, as I have eclectic tastes.

I welcome suggestions for more sources of free and legal music. My email address is on the front page.
