HistoryHound

Find pages in your Bookmarks or History just by typing words you remember from them!

HistoryHound lets you do a fast keyword search on the entire content of all web pages and RSS feeds you've visited recently, plus all those that you've bookmarked. It's a "personal web search." Just type in a few keywords and HistoryHound gives you a list of pages you've viewed recently, ranked by relevance.

Have you ever tried to find something in your browser history or bookmarks, but couldn't quite remember when or where you saw it, or which browser you were using at the time? Or perhaps you've got your bookmarks meticulously organized, but it takes forever to mouse through the menus to get to something you want? HistoryHound will chase down the page for you - fast!

# py-chrome-bookmarks

Simple Python scripts to convert [Google Chrome](http://www.google.com/chrome)’s bookmarks and history to the [standard HTML-ish bookmarks file format](http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa753582%28v=vs.85%29.aspx). Scripts written by Benjamin Esham <bdesham@gmail.com>.

The functionality to do this for bookmarks is already built into Chrome (select Bookmarks → Bookmarks Manager, then click “Organize” and select “Export Bookmarks…”). I wrote this script to be able to perform this conversion in a cron script.

## Usage

### Bookmarks script

From the command line, do

python py-chrome-bookmarks.py .../path/to/Chrome/Bookmarks output.html

The script will ignore URLs that start with “javascript:”.

### History script

From the command line, do

python py-chrome-history.py .../path/to/Chrome/History output.html

**Note:** it’s probably necessary to quit Chrome before running this so that the history database isn’t locked. Alternately, make a copy of Chrome’s History file and run the script on that.

The script will ignore history entries with empty titles.

About me « Lea Verou
My name is Lea Verou (actually, in official papers it’s Michaelia Komvouti-Verou, but who can bare to use such a long name in everyday life?) and I’m a front-end web developer currently living in Greece. I am the co-owner of a small company named Fresset Ltd. At the same time, I study Computer Science in Athens University of Economics and Business. I am passionate about JavaScript and CSS3, so this blog is mostly devoted to them. You can email me at me@leaverou․me (don’t copy/paste the email, it won’t work. Note to self: Must add contact form). Please note however that I am too busy to accept web design/development projects for clients at the time, so if you wanted to contact me about one, don’t bother (unless it’s something quick and interesting I guess).

About the blog style:

This was my first second attempt of creating a WordPress theme. Given that it’s a personal project, I promised myself not to pay much attention to the Evil browser (we all know which), especially older versions of it (*cough* 6 *cough*). This theme is heavily based on experimental CSS3 properties, so it will look better in more CSS3-supporting browsers (modern versions of Firefox, Safari, Chrome or Opera). I did devote some time to make it look OK in other browsers but given that this is my personal blog, I wanted it’s design to be fun for me, and browser incompatibilities aren’t much fun, as you probably know already. :P
